The Market Structure indicator provides an automated framework for identifying key market structure shifts and Change of Character (CHoCH) points, helping traders visualize price action dynamics and trend reversals.

Usage

The indicator identifies structural swing points and trend shifts through several visual components:

  • Swing Highs & Lows: The tool automatically detects pivot points based on the selected sensitivity. These points serve as the foundation for identifying structural breaks.
  • Change of Character (CHoCH): When the price closes above a previous swing high or below a previous swing low in a specific structural context, the indicator marks a "CHoCH" event. A bullish CHoCH suggests a potential shift toward upward momentum, while a bearish CHoCH suggests a downward shift.
  • Structure Visualization: Dashed lines and labels are dynamically drawn between the origin of the structural shift and the current price action to provide clear context for recent breaks.

Details

The script utilizes a lookback period to determine pivot highs and lows. A pivot is confirmed when the current high/low is the highest/lowest within the specified "Pivots Sensitivity" range.

The Change of Character logic tracks whether the price has crossed these confirmed structural levels. Once a level is breached by a closing price, the internal state updates, and a visual signal is produced. To maintain chart clarity, the indicator includes a line and label management system that automatically prunes older objects based on the "Show Last" setting.

Settings

  • Show Last: Defines the number of historical bars back the indicator will display lines and labels.
  • Pivots Sensitivity: Adjusts the sensitivity for pivot detection. Higher values require more significant price movement to identify a swing point, while lower values identify more frequent, smaller pivots.
  • Show Pivot Highs/Lows: Toggles the visibility of the circles marking swing points on the chart.
  • Pivot Highs/Lows Color: Customizes the colors used for structural points and their associated signals.
  • Show CHoCH: Enables or disables the display of Change of Character labels and lines.

FAQ

How do I interpret the CHoCH signals? A CHoCH signal indicates a potential shift in market sentiment. Traders often look for these signals near key supply and demand zones or order blocks for higher-probability setups.

How do I adjust the indicator for different timeframes? Use the "Pivots Sensitivity" setting. For higher timeframes (like Daily or Weekly), lower sensitivity might be preferred, whereas for scalping on lower timeframes, you might increase sensitivity to capture more granular structure.
