Price-Line Channel - A Friendly Support And Resistance Indicator
Oct 14, 2019

The Price-Line Channel indicator provides dynamic, linear support and resistance levels through a flexible recursive framework.
Usage
The indicator consists of two primary lines: an upper extremity serving as resistance and a lower extremity serving as support. Traders can utilize this tool in two main ways:
- Support & Resistance: Identifying potential reversal points when price interacts with the upper or lower boundaries.
- Breakout Identification: A crossing above the upper line suggests an emerging uptrend, while a cross below the lower line indicates a potential downtrend.
The reactivity of these lines is determined by the length setting. Higher values result in flatter lines that interact with price less frequently, while lower values create steeper slopes that follow price action more closely.
Details
The Price-Line Channel is built upon the recursive bands framework. Unlike standard linear regression models that often repaint or require complex manual setups, this indicator provides a stable, non-repainting linear output. It calculates its trajectories based on its own historical interaction with price, creating a self-referential channel.
A key feature is the "Readjustment" mode. When enabled, the indicator adapts its steepness based on market volatility. In periods of high volatility, the lines converge faster toward the price action, which is particularly useful for volatile assets like cryptocurrencies.
Settings
- Length: Determines the steepness and reactivity of the channel. A higher value results in a more gradual slope and less frequent price interactions.
- Source: Specifies the price data used for the calculation (default is Close).
- Readjustment: A toggle to enable volatility-based adjustment. When active, the channel converges more rapidly during volatile market movements at the slight cost of perfect linearity.
