The Twin Optimized Trend Tracker Strategy TOTT indicator provides a dual-layered trend-following system designed to filter out market noise and sideways price action through a specialized vertical displacement mechanism.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify trend reversals and avoid false signals during consolidation. This strategy utilizes two Optimized Trend Tracker (OTT) lines shifted vertically by a user-defined coefficient, creating a buffer zone that helps traders stay on the right side of a trend.

  • Trend Identification: When the price-based Moving Average (Support Line) crosses above the upper OTT line, a bullish trend is confirmed. Conversely, a cross below the lower OTT line indicates a bearish trend.
  • Sideways Filtering: The "Flat Zone" between the two OTT lines acts as a filter. Signals are only triggered when the Moving Average breaks out of this channel, reducing the impact of "whipsaws" in non-trending markets.
  • Visual Aids: The indicator includes colored labels for Buy and Sell signals, along with background highlighting to distinguish between uptrends, downtrends, and neutral zones.

Details

The TOTT (Twin Optimized Trend Tracker) is an evolution of the original OTT developed by Anıl Özekşi. It functions by calculating a primary trend line based on an optimization constant and a selected moving average type.

The "Twin" aspect is achieved by applying a vertical displacement (Coefficient) to the calculated OTT value. This creates two distinct boundaries:

  1. OTTup: The upper boundary (OTT * (1 + Coeff)).
  2. OTTdn: The lower boundary (OTT * (1 - Coeff)).

Unlike standard moving average crossovers, the TOTT uses a delayed calculation logic (referencing the value from two bars ago) to ensure the trend is established before generating a signal. The strategy also incorporates various moving average types, including VAR (Volatility Adjusted Moving Average), ZLEMA (Zero Lag EMA), and TSF (Time Series Forecast), allowing for flexibility in different market conditions.

Settings

Primary Inputs

  • Source: The price source used for calculations (e.g., Close, HL2).
  • OTT Period: The lookback period for the primary trend calculation.
  • Optimization Constant: Adjusts the sensitivity of the OTT line relative to the moving average.
  • Twin OTT Coefficient: Determines the vertical distance between the two OTT lines to filter sideways movement.
  • Moving Average Type: Selects the calculation method (SMA, EMA, WMA, TMA, VAR, WWMA, ZLEMA, or TSF).

Visual Settings

  • Show Support Line?: Toggles the visibility of the primary moving average.
  • Show Signals?: Toggles the Buy and Sell labels on the chart.
  • Highlighter On/Off?: Enables or disables the background color fills for trend zones.

Backtest Inputs

  • From/To Day, Month, Year: Defines the specific time range for the strategy to execute trades during backtesting.

FAQ

How do I adjust the sensitivity of the TOTT signals? You can increase the "OTT Period" or the "Optimization Constant" to make the indicator slower and more trend-resistant, or decrease them for faster response times to price changes.

What is the purpose of the "Twin OTT Coefficient"? This setting creates a vertical channel around the trend line. A higher coefficient requires a stronger price move to trigger a signal, which is useful for avoiding false entries during choppy, sideways markets.
