Trendline Breakouts With Targets
Oct 3, 2025

The Trendline Breakouts With Targets indicator automatically identifies dynamic trendlines based on swing points and provides actionable breakout signals with projected profit targets and stop-loss levels. It streamlines the process of detecting trend shifts by confirming breakouts through price action and volume-adjusted filters.
Usage
The tool is designed to automate the manual process of drawing and monitoring trendlines.
- Bullish Breakouts: Triggered when the price closes above a descending resistance trendline. A label appears below the bar, accompanied by target and stop-loss projections.
- Bearish Breakouts: Triggered when the price closes below an ascending support trendline. A label appears above the bar, highlighting the potential downward move.
- Trade Management: Once a breakout is confirmed, the script visually plots a dashed "Target" line and a stop-loss boundary. The target labels change color to indicate whether the take-profit (Bullish color) or stop-loss (Bearish color) was reached.
Details
The script utilizes a pivot-based detection mechanism to find swing highs and lows over a user-defined period.
- Trendline Construction: Trendlines are calculated using a slope-based method between recent pivots. These lines are extended forward into the future to create "Zones" of interest.
- Filtering: The indicator includes a
volAdj(Volume Adjustment) function that calculates a buffer zone based on ATR. This helps in filtering out minor price fluctuations that do not represent a significant trend change. - Execution Logic: Signals only fire when a clear crossover occurs against a trendline that has a valid directional slope (e.g., a break above a downward slope for longs).
Settings
Core Settings
- Period: Determines the lookback period for identifying pivot highs and lows. Higher values result in more significant, longer-term trendlines.
- Type: Allows the user to choose between 'Wicks' or 'Body' for pivot detection. 'Wicks' uses the high/low of the candle, while 'Body' uses the open/close.
- Extend: Sets the length of the trendline extension into the future (25, 50, or 75 bars).
- Line Color: Customizes the visual appearance of the trendline zones.
- Show Targets: Toggles the visibility of the projected take-profit and stop-loss lines and labels.
