The Value Area Breakouts + TP/SL indicator is a comprehensive technical analysis tool that defines volume-based equilibrium zones to identify high-momentum breakouts. It utilizes Volume Profile calculations to plot the Value Area High (VAH), Value Area Low (VAL), and Point of Control (POC), helping traders visualize transitions from market balance to imbalance.

Usage

The script is designed to identify trading opportunities when price moves outside of a established volume range.

  • Defining the Range: Select between "Visible Screen" (dynamic), "Last Pivot" (trend-based), or "Fixed Bars" (static) to determine the lookback period for volume calculations.
  • Signal Identification: A signal box appears when a candle closes outside the Value Area (above VAH for Long, below VAL for Short).
  • Volume Validation: Use the Volume Filter to ensure breakouts occur with significant participation. The box and labels will only appear if the volume exceeds the user-defined moving average multiplier.
  • Trade Management: Upon a confirmed breakout, the tool automatically plots entry levels, Stop Loss (based on ATR or percentage), and three Take Profit targets based on risk/reward ratios.

Details

The indicator calculates the Value Area as the price range where a specified percentage of total volume (default 70%) was traded. This represents the "fair value" zone.

  • POC (Point of Control): Represents the price level with the highest traded volume within the selected range, acting as a magnet or a pivot point.
  • Imbalance: A breakout from the Value Area combined with high volume suggests that market participants are aggressively seeking a new value zone, often leading to sustained trends.

Settings

Profile Calculation Mode

  • Channel Mode: Determines the range used for the Volume Profile (Visible Screen, Last Pivot, or Fixed Bars).
  • Bars Back: Sets the specific number of candles for the Fixed Bars calculation mode.
  • Pivot Settings: Configures the left and right bar requirements for pivot detection in Last Pivot mode.

Value Area Settings

  • Show POC/VA Lines: Toggles the visibility of the Point of Control and Value Area boundaries.
  • Value Area %: Adjusts the percentage of volume used to define the fair value zone.

Volume Filter for Signals

  • Enable Volume Filter: Requires price breakouts to be accompanied by a volume spike.
  • Minimum Volume Multiplier: Sets the threshold for how much higher volume must be relative to its moving average.

Take Profit / Stop Loss

  • SL Calculation: Choose between ATR-based volatility stops or fixed percentage stops.
  • Risk/Reward (TP1-TP3): Defines the target levels based on the initial risk taken.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored boxes on the candles?

The green or red boxes indicate that a candle has successfully closed outside the Value Area while meeting the minimum volume multiplier criteria, signaling a valid breakout.

Can I change the sensitivity of the breakouts?

Yes, you can adjust the "Value Area %" to make the zone wider or narrower, or modify the "Minimum Volume Multiplier" to require more or less volume for a signal to trigger.
