The Price Action Dynamics Oscillator (PADO) indicator is a multi-dimensional technical analysis tool designed to decompose price action into manipulation and distribution metrics to reveal underlying market microstructure. It helps traders identify potential trend reversals, institutional accumulation/distribution phases, and periods of market consolidation by analyzing normalized price movements against historical averages.

Usage

The PADO tool can be utilized across various timeframes and assets, specifically designed for liquid markets like Forex, Futures, and Large-cap stocks. Traders can use the oscillator to:

  • Identify Market States: Use the background quadrant coloring to determine if the market is in a state of high manipulation (institutional activity) or high distribution (directional momentum).
  • Spot Reversals: Monitor the Strategy Deployment line. Crosses above or below the volatility bands (standard deviation lines) act as warnings for potential exhaustion or momentum shifts.
  • Trend Confirmation: The bar coloration provides a quick visual cue of the current market dynamic, helping to filter noise during consolidation periods.
  • Mean Reversion: When Bollinger Bands are enabled, traders can look for price action extremes relative to the linear regression slope.

Details

The indicator operates on two primary metrics:

  1. Manipulation Metrics: Calculates the relationship between the candle's wick (Open to Low for bullish, High to Open for bearish) relative to the Average True Range (ATR). High values suggest "trapping" or manipulation behavior.
  2. Distribution Metrics: Measures directional strength based on the body of the candle (Close vs. Open) normalized by ATR.

The values are smoothed using a dynamic SMA length based on the price range distance to adapt to current volatility. The script also employs a Quadrant Analysis system:

  • Q1 (Lime): Low Manipulation, High Distribution (Trend continuation/Smart money distribution).
  • Q2 (Blue): High Manipulation, High Distribution (High institutional activity/Uncertainty).
  • Q3 (Gray): Low Manipulation, Low Distribution (Consolidation/Range-bound).
  • Q4 (Yellow): High Manipulation, Low Distribution (Accumulation phase).

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored background?

The background colors represent four distinct market quadrants based on the relationship between manipulation and distribution valuations. For example, Gray indicates low activity/consolidation, while Blue indicates high institutional involvement.

What do the "M" and "D" labels mean?

These are Manipulation and Distribution warnings. They appear when the strategy oscillator crosses outside the volatility bands, suggesting the current market dynamic is reaching an extreme.
