The Bollinger Bands MTF indicator allows traders to plot Bollinger Bands from higher timeframes directly onto their current chart, providing a broader perspective on volatility and trend direction without switching intervals.

Usage

The Usage of the Bollinger Bands MTF is similar to standard Bollinger Bands but with the added dimension of multi-timeframe analysis. Traders typically use it to:

  • Identify Higher Timeframe Support/Resistance: Use the upper and lower bands from a daily or weekly timeframe while trading on a 15-minute or 1-hour chart to find significant price levels.
  • Trend Confirmation: Determine if the current price action aligns with the volatility envelopes of a higher timeframe.
  • Volatility Breakouts: Monitor when the current price crosses the MTF bands, which may signal a shift in market regime or a potential reversal.

The indicator includes built-in alerts that trigger when the price crosses over the upper MTF band or under the lower MTF band, facilitating timely decision-making.

Details

This script is based on the volatility indicator developed by John Bollinger. It calculates a simple moving average (the basis) and two bands shifted by a standard deviation multiple. The Multi-Timeframe (MTF) functionality is achieved through the request.security function, which fetches the calculated band values from the user-specified timeframe and maps them onto the current chart interval. This helps traders stay aware of macro-level volatility constraints while focusing on micro-level price movements.

Settings

  • Time Frame: Specifies the higher timeframe from which the Bollinger Bands are calculated (e.g., Daily, Weekly, 4-Hour).
  • BB Periodu: The lookback period for the Simple Moving Average (Basis) and Standard Deviation calculation.
  • BB Sapma Çarpanı: The multiplier for the Standard Deviation that determines the distance of the upper and lower bands from the basis.
