Support and ResistanceVolume BasedChannels

The VWAP Stdev Bands v2 Mod UPDATE indicator provides an enhanced Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) framework featuring multiple customizable standard deviation bands for intraday reversal and trend analysis. It is designed to help traders identify overbought and oversold conditions by visualizing price volatility relative to volume-weighted benchmarks.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, particularly for intraday trading strategies. The indicator calculates the VWAP and projects up to five sets of standard deviation bands above and below the baseline. These bands act as dynamic support and resistance levels; for example, price reaching the outer bands (e.g., Band 3 or 4) often suggests an exhausted trend and a potential reversal point, especially when the market is ranging.

Bar Coloring

The indicator includes a conditional bar-coloring feature to provide immediate visual feedback on price location.

  • Bars located between the VWAP and the first upper/lower bands are colored to represent a neutral-to-developing trend.
  • Bars moving into outer standard deviation zones (e.g., between Band 2 and Band 3) change color to signify increasing volatility or extreme price extensions.

Visual Zones

The spaces between deviation lines can be filled with color to create distinct "zones." This helps in identifying "value areas" versus "extreme areas." Traders can use these zones to scale into positions or time exits based on how deep the price penetrates the standard deviation layers.

Details

The script calculates VWAP using a cumulative sum of price multiplied by volume, divided by the cumulative volume, resetting at the start of each daily session. Standard deviation is calculated using the variance of the volume-weighted price. This specific "Mod" version builds upon the original work by SandroTurriate and TheYangGuizi, introducing more granular control over the number of visible bands and the logic for candle highlights.

Settings

  • Stdev above/below (1-5): Defines the multiplier for the standard deviation calculation for each of the five potential band levels.
  • Turn Barcolor ON/OFF?: Toggles the conditional candle coloring based on price location relative to the bands.
  • Show group of bands (2-5): Individual toggles to enable or disable the second, third, fourth, and fifth standard deviation levels.
  • Show previous VWAP close: Optionally displays a horizontal level representing the final VWAP value from the previous session.
  • Color Source: Selects the price source (e.g., Close, HL2) used to determine the bar coloring logic.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colored bands?

The bands represent statistical deviations from the volume-weighted average. The first band usually captures the majority of price action, while the third, fourth, and fifth bands represent extreme volatility often associated with reversals or significant breakouts.

Can I use this on daily or weekly timeframes?

The script is optimized for intraday use as the calculations reset on a daily basis ("D"). Using it on higher timeframes may require adjusting the session reset logic in the source code.
