Mean Reversion Oscillator
Oct 21, 2025

The Mean Reversion Oscillator indicator is a comprehensive composite system that combines five distinct momentum and volume-based oscillators into a single analytical framework to identify high-probability mean reversion opportunities. By integrating multi-dimensional data, the tool provides precise entry signals while filtering for market extremes and momentum confirmation.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying overextended market conditions and potential reversal points. Traders can utilize the following features:
- Composite Entry Signals: Look for bullish entry circles when the oscillator crosses above the extreme oversold threshold with rising momentum, or bearish entry circles when it crosses below the extreme overbought threshold with falling momentum.
- Dual-Threshold Zones: The indicator utilizes two levels of extremes. Moderate levels (65/35) indicate building pressure, while extreme levels (80/20) signal high-probability reversal zones.
- Momentum Confirmation: Use the histogram to ensure that the rate of change in the oscillator supports the reversal. A bullish signal is confirmed only when momentum is increasing.
- Divergence Detection: Diamond markers appear when price movement and oscillator movement diverge, providing an early warning of potential trend exhaustion.
- Real-Time Dashboard: The on-screen table provides an immediate summary of current status, component values (RSI, Stochastic, MFI), and overall momentum.
Details
The script constructs its primary output by normalizing and averaging five core indicators: Bollinger %B, Relative Strength Index (RSI), Stochastic, Money Flow Index (MFI), and Williams %R. This composite approach reduces the noise inherent in individual indicators. The resulting raw score is smoothed using a simple moving average (SMA) to provide a cleaner signal.
The momentum histogram is calculated using the rate of change of the composite oscillator over a 5-period window. This allows the system to distinguish between a "drifting" market and one that is actively reversing with strength.
Settings
Input Parameters
- Bollinger Length / Multiplier: Adjusts the period and standard deviation for the %B calculation.
- RSI Length: Defines the period for the Relative Strength Index component.
- Stochastic K / D: Sets the periods for the Stochastic calculation and its internal smoothing.
- MFI Length: Controls the period for the Money Flow Index (volume-weighted momentum).
- Composite Smoothing: Determines the SMA length applied to the final composite score.
- Extreme / Moderate Levels: Customizable thresholds for defining overbought and oversold conditions.
Toggle Options
- Show Composite Oscillator: Enables or disables the primary smoothed line.
- Show Individual Components: Displays the underlying RSI, Stochastic, and MFI for transparency.
- Show Momentum Histogram: Toggles the visual rate-of-change histogram.
- Show Entry Signals / Divergence: Controls the visibility of entry markers and divergence diamonds.
FAQ
How do I interpret the background colors?
The background shading corresponds to the market state: blue/green zones represent oversold territories, while red/orange zones represent overbought territories, with intensity increasing as the market reaches "Extreme" thresholds.
Can this be used for trend following?
While primarily designed for mean reversion, the midline (50) crosses and the momentum histogram can help identify the start of new trends or the resumption of existing ones after a correction.
