Volume Trap Reversal Planner
May 1, 2026

The Volume Trap Reversal Planner indicator is a comprehensive analysis tool that identifies high-volume trap behavior near key price references to help traders plan potential market reversals. It focuses on the decision-making layer after a volume spike occurs, evaluating whether the price expansion fails to hold and subsequently confirms a recovery.
Usage
The script is designed to help traders move beyond reacting to simple volume spikes by providing a structured reversal model.
- Identifying Traps: The indicator monitors rolling high/low references for unusual volume expansion. A "Volume Trap Pocket" is mapped when price sweeps these references and quickly recovers.
- Confirmation: Instead of an immediate signal, the tool looks for a "Reversal Ready" state, which occurs when the trap is confirmed by follow-through candle action and a high readiness score.
- Planning Zones: The tool plots "Risk Edges" and "Target-Room Bands" to provide context on where the reversal thesis weakens and where potential profit-taking review should begin.
- Decision Panel: A compact AGPro panel provides a real-time summary of the current trap side, volume spike intensity, and a 0-100 reversal score.
Details
The methodology behind the script involves a multi-step evaluation process:
- Context Detection: Establishing a rolling range based on the user-defined lookback period.
- Relative Volume (RVOL) Analysis: Measuring volume spikes against a baseline to determine the significance of the trap.
- Wick and Recovery Evaluation: Analyzing the quality of the price sweep and the strength of the move back inside the reference range.
- Scoring Model: A 0-100 score is generated based on wick quality, recovery strength, confirmation candle structure, and follow-through distance. This ensures a balanced interpretation rather than a reaction to a single volatile candle.
Settings
Volume Trap Engine
- Trap Reference Lookback: Sets the period for the rolling high/low range used for trap detection.
- Sensitivity: Adjusts how selective the engine is regarding volume spikes and wick sweeps.
- Confirmation Mode: Determines the strictness required for the confirmation candle (Fast, Balanced, or Strict).
Readiness Score
- Minimum Reversal Score: The threshold required to transition from a "Watch" state to a "Reversal Ready" state.
- Volume Spike RVOL: Sets the relative volume multiplier needed to trigger initial trap detection.
Risk / Target Logic
- Risk Edge Buffer ATR: Defines the distance for the risk edge line based on Average True Range.
- Target Room ATR Fallback: Sets the default target band distance if the opposite reference is too close.
FAQ
How do I access the Volume Trap Reversal Planner?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
What do the different label states mean?
"VOL TRAP WATCH" indicates a candidate has formed but lacks confirmation. "REVERSAL READY" means confirmation is met. "TRAP FAILED" signifies price has crossed the risk edge, invalidating the setup.
Which timeframes are best for this tool?
While it works on various timeframes, 4H charts are recommended for the cleanest visual balance. It is best used on markets with reliable volume data and significant participation at highs and lows.
