Philakone 5EMA Swing Trading Strategy [Buy&Sell Signals]
Apr 5, 2019

The Philakone 5EMA Swing Trading Strategy [Buy&Sell Signals] indicator provides a comprehensive moving average framework designed to identify swing trading opportunities through trend-following crossovers and trend confirmation.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify trend direction and potential entry points based on the interaction of five different moving averages (8, 13, 21, 55, and 200).
- Buy Signals: Triggered when the 21-period moving average crosses above the 55-period moving average, provided that the 8-period moving average is also above the 13-period moving average.
- Sell Signals: Triggered when the 21-period moving average crosses below the 55-period moving average, provided that the 8-period moving average is also below the 13-period moving average.
- Trend Filtering: The 200-period moving average serves as a long-term trend filter. Users can use this to ensure they are only taking signals in the direction of the macro trend (e.g., only buying when price is above the 200 EMA).
Details
This tool is a modified version of the Philakone 55 EMA strategy. It calculates five distinct moving averages to capture short-term, medium-term, and long-term price action. The core logic relies on the relationship between the 21 and 55 averages (the primary "swing" cross) confirmed by the relationship between the 8 and 13 averages (the "momentum" confirmation).
The inclusion of the 200-period moving average provides a baseline for institutional trend awareness, which was not present in earlier versions. Users can choose between Simple Moving Averages (SMA) or Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) depending on their preference for responsiveness versus smoothness.
Settings
- Exponential MA: A toggle to switch between Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and Simple Moving Averages (SMA) for all calculations.
