The Reversal and Breakout Signals indicator provides traders with automated visual cues for identifying potential price reversals and trend breakouts based on dynamic price levels and volume analysis.

Usage

The script is designed to highlight two main types of market opportunities:

  • Reversal Signals (R): Marked by triangles, these appear when the price tests the upper or lower support/resistance levels but fails to hold beyond them. A bullish reversal is identified when the price dips below the lower level but closes back above it. A bearish reversal occurs when the price spikes above the upper level but closes below it.
  • Breakout Signals (B): Represented by diamonds, these signals indicate that price has successfully broken through the established levels with high volume support. These signals suggest a potential continuation of the new trend direction.
  • Trend Tracking: The tool features a trend tracker based on the Hull Moving Average (HMA) that changes color to help traders stay aligned with the overall market momentum.

Details

The indicator establishes price levels by calculating Weighted Moving Averages (WMA) of the high and low prices over a specific period. It then tracks the highest and lowest points of these averages to create step-like support and resistance levels. By using moving averages as the basis for these levels, the script filters out minor price noise, focusing on more significant structural pivots.

The breakout logic is further validated by a volume filter. A signal is only triggered if the current relative volume exceeds the user-defined threshold, ensuring that only "strong" breakouts are highlighted.

Settings

  • Indicator Period: Controls the lookback period for calculating the price levels and the WMA sensitivity.
  • Volume Strength Period: Defines the lookback period used to calculate the average volume for the relative volume filter.
  • Strong Volume Threshold: Sets the multiplier for relative volume. Signals will only trigger if volume is higher than this many times the average volume.
  • Color Candles During Trends: When enabled, the chart candles will be colored based on the active trend state determined by breakouts.
  • Visual Customization: Allows users to define specific colors for bullish, bearish, and breakout signals to match their chart preferences.

FAQ

How do I use the reversal signals?

Reversal signals are best used when the market is in a ranging environment or when the price is overextended. Look for the "R" icon near the upper or lower price levels to identify potential turning points.

What is the difference between the triangles and diamonds?

Triangles represent "Reversals," where the price rejected a level. Diamonds represent "Breakouts," where the price successfully pushed through a level with significant volume.
