Support and ResistanceVolume BasedChannels

The Vwap Ribbon - JD indicator displays a custom timeframe Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) line alongside several subsequent multiples of that timeframe to help identify potential mean reversion levels. By visualizing a sequence of VWAP calculations, traders can observe how price interacts with cumulative volume-weighted averages over extended periods.

Usage

The Vwap Ribbon - JD can be used to identify support and resistance zones based on historical volume-weighted averages. In trending markets, price often extends away from the primary VWAP; however, after significant moves, price frequently tends to return to or "test" one of the ribbon's trailing VWAP multiples.

Traders can use the ribbon to:

  • Identify potential exhaustion points when price is significantly stretched from the main VWAP.
  • Spot mean reversion targets during pullbacks.
  • Filter trends by observing the relationship between current price and the ribbon of VWAP lines.

Details

The indicator utilizes a custom function to calculate VWAP based on a user-defined timeframe (e.g., Weekly, Monthly). Unlike a standard VWAP that resets strictly at the start of a new period, this script calculates multiple "continuous" versions by passing the previous period's accumulated Price * Volume and Total Volume into subsequent iterations. This creates a "ribbon" effect that represents the volume-weighted average over increasingly larger lookback windows relative to the selected timeframe.

Settings

  • Timeframe: Determines the base period for the VWAP calculation (e.g., 1D, 1W, 1M).
  • Number of Vwap lines: Adjusts the visibility of the ribbon by selecting how many trailing VWAP multiples (up to 10) are displayed on the chart.
