The Trendline Breakout Strategy indicator is a rule-based system that builds trendlines from confirmed swing pivots and trades their breakouts with integrated trend-regime filters and ATR-based risk management. It aims to provide a structured, non-repainting approach to identifying trend shifts and momentum entries.

Usage

The Usage section highlights how this tool identifies market structure and generates signals. The script automatically draws an "Up" line (teal) through the last two Higher Lows and a "Down" line (red) through the last two Lower Highs. These lines are extended forward to define potential breakout levels.

  • Long Signals: Occur when the price closes above the red downtrend line, provided the price is above the optional EMA filter.
  • Short Signals: Occur when the price closes below the teal uptrend line, provided the price is below the optional EMA filter.
  • Confirmation: Users can enable a retest module to wait for price to pull back to the broken trendline before entering, reducing the likelihood of false breakouts.
  • Visual Verification: The indicator plots "HL1/HL2" and "LH1/LH2" labels to show exactly which pivots were used to construct the active trendlines.

Details

This strategy operates through a linear decision flow: structure identification, breakout detection, regime gating, and managed risk.

  1. Pivot Engine: Uses confirmed swing points (non-repainting) based on a defined look-back/look-forward period.
  2. Trendline Geometry: Lines are only formed if the structure is valid (e.g., HL2 > HL1 for uptrends).
  3. Regime Gates: Uses EMA and optional HTF (Higher Timeframe) EMA filters to ensure trades are aligned with the broader trend, preventing entries during choppy or counter-trend conditions.
  4. Risk Management: Automatically calculates stop-loss and take-profit levels based on the Average True Range (ATR). This normalizes risk across different assets and timeframes by using R-multiples for targets.
