The Session Range Breakouts With Targets indicator identifies session-specific trading ranges and calculates dynamic breakout zones and take-profit targets using volatility-based ATR measurements.

Usage

The indicator is designed to help traders capture momentum following the establishment of a session range.

  • Identifying Ranges: The script monitors price action during a specific window (Asia, London, New York, or Custom). After a set number of bars, it defines the high and low of that period.
  • Breakout Zones: Rather than using a single price line, the tool creates upper and lower boxes. A breakout is confirmed when the price closes outside these volatility-adjusted zones, helping to filter out minor fluctuations or "fakeouts."
  • Targeting: Once a breakout occurs, the script automatically projects three take-profit levels based on ATR multipliers. Bullish targets appear after an upside breakout, while bearish targets appear after a downside breakout.
  • Visual Cues: Bullish breakouts are marked with upward triangles, and bearish breakouts with downward triangles. Reaching a target is signaled by an 'X' on the chart.

Details

The script operates by capturing the highest and lowest points within a user-defined session. A "Wait Bars" parameter ensures the range is established over a sufficient duration before the breakout zones are plotted. The width of these zones is determined by the Average True Range (ATR) multiplied by a sensitivity factor, allowing the indicator to expand the "buffer" during high volatility and contract it during low volatility. This adaptive mechanism is also applied to the three take-profit levels, ensuring targets are realistic relative to current market conditions.

FAQ

How do I use the different session types?

You can select the desired session from the "Session Type" dropdown menu in the settings. This allows the indicator to focus exclusively on the volatility of a specific market open, such as the New York or London open.

What does the "Wait bars" setting do?

This setting prevents the indicator from signaling a breakout too early. It forces the script to wait for a specific number of bars to pass within the session to establish a reliable high and low range.

How can I get access to this indicator?
