RSI Wave Signals
Apr 17, 2022

The RSI Wave Signals indicator utilizes a smoothed RSI combined with an optimized trailing moving average system to generate trend-following signals and identify momentum shifts.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify potential entry and exit points based on the interaction between the smoothed RSI moving average (SL) and the trailing line (OTT).
- Bullish Signal: A bullish crossover occurs when the blue SL line crosses above the trailing OTT line.
- Bearish Signal: A bearish crossover occurs when the blue SL line crosses below the trailing OTT line.
To enhance the reliability of these signals, traders often look for crossovers that occur near specific boundary conditions:
- Oversold Filter: Look for bullish signals when the indicator is near or below the lower boundary (default 1040).
- Overbought Filter: Look for bearish signals when the indicator is near or above the upper boundary (default 1060).
The script is particularly effective on lower timeframes such as the 1-minute, 3-minute, or 5-minute charts for scalping and day trading.
Details
This tool incorporates the Variable Index Dynamic Average (VIDYA) concept applied to the RSI, further processed through an "Optimized Trend Tracker" (OTT) algorithm. The script adds a constant of 1,000 to the RSI values; this adjustment allows for more natural percentage-based trailing calculations and better scaling within the indicator window.
The core logic uses a Chande Momentum Oscillator (CMO) to adjust the alpha of the moving average, making it more responsive during high-volatility periods and smoother during consolidation. This implementation is based on concepts popularized by KivancOzbilgic and Anil Ozeksi.
Settings
Main Settings
- Period For MA: Determines the length used for the VIDYA moving average calculation (the blue line).
- Trailing Percentage of MA: Sets the percentage distance for the trailing stop-loss line (OTT), affecting how closely the signal line follows the price action.
- RSI Length: Adjusts the lookback period for the underlying Relative Strength Index.
- Oversold Level: Defines the lower threshold for identifying potential reversal zones.
- Overbought Level: Defines the upper threshold for identifying potential reversal zones.
