The Dual SuperTrend indicator provides two independent SuperTrend calculations within a single script to help traders identify trend confluence and potential exhaustion points.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying market direction through the interaction of a "Fast" and "Slow" SuperTrend. Traders can look for various signals based on the alignment of these two lines:

  • Trend Confluence: When both the Fast and Slow SuperTrends are bullish (green), it suggests a strong uptrend. Conversely, when both are bearish (red), it indicates a strong downtrend.
  • Entry Signals: Standard Buy and Sell labels are generated whenever a SuperTrend flips direction. The "Fast" version reacts quickly to price volatility, while the "Slow" version acts as a broader trend filter.
  • Exhaustion or Pullbacks: If the Fast SuperTrend flips against the Slow SuperTrend, it may signal a temporary pullback or a potential trend reversal.

The tool includes visual aids like shading and labels which can be toggled in the settings to clean up the chart interface.

Details

The script is based on the standard SuperTrend logic, which uses the Average True Range (ATR) to create dynamic support and resistance levels. By implementing two sets of ATR periods and multipliers, the script allows for a dual-layered analysis.

The implementation offers two different ATR calculation methods: the standard ta.atr (Smoothed Moving Average) and a simpler Simple Moving Average (SMA) of the True Range. This flexibility allows users to match the indicator's sensitivity to specific market conditions or other popular charting platforms.

Settings

  • Source: Determines the price data used for calculations (default is HL2).
  • ATR Multiplier (Fast/Slow): Sets the distance of the SuperTrend line from the price. Higher values result in fewer signals and more lag.
  • ATR Period (Fast/Slow): The lookback period for the volatility (ATR) calculation.
  • Line Transparency: Adjusts the visibility of the trend lines.
  • Shading Transparency: Adjusts the visibility of the background clouds.
  • Change ATR Calculation Method?: Toggles between the standard Pine Script ATR and an SMA-based True Range calculation.
  • Show Shading?: Enables or disables the visual fill between the line and price for each SuperTrend.
  • Show Buy/Sell Labels?: Toggles the visibility of the "Buy" and "Sell" text labels on the chart.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Dual SuperTrend? When both the Fast and Slow lines agree on a direction, it typically indicates a higher probability trend. If they disagree, the market may be ranging or entering a transitional phase.

Can I change the sensitivity of the signals? Yes, you can adjust the ATR Multiplier and ATR Period for both the Fast and Slow settings to make the indicator more or less reactive to price movements.
