Volume Momentum Breakout + TP/SL
Mar 6, 2026

The Volume Momentum Breakout + TP/SL indicator identifies high-volume breakouts supported by strong momentum to filter out insignificant price movements. By combining volume normalization with a momentum oscillator, it provides early signals of market shifts before they are confirmed by standard price structures.
Usage
The indicator operates in two primary modes: "Signals after pivot breakout," which focuses on breakouts exceeding previous oscillator pivots, and "OB/OS continuation signals," which tracks every breakout of overbought or oversold levels.
When a momentum breakout occurs, the tool creates a "price box" based on the high-low range of the trigger candle. This box extends until a candle closes outside its boundary, providing a secondary price confirmation for entry.
- Bullish Signal: A green triangle appears when price closes above a box top.
- Bearish Signal: A red triangle appears when price closes below a box bottom.
The tool includes an automated TP/SL system that activates upon box breakouts, calculating risk levels based on ATR or a fixed percentage.
Details
The indicator calculates a normalized volume value by comparing current volume to its standard deviation and average. This result is multiplied by price change to create a Volume Momentum Oscillator (VWO). This approach ensures that a signal is only generated when high volume is accompanied by directional momentum. The price boxes act as a volatility filter, ensuring the market has enough strength to move beyond the initial signal candle's range.
Settings
Main Settings
- Operation Mode: Selects between pivot-based filtering or standard overbought/oversold crossovers.
- Average Volume Window: The lookback period for volume normalization; longer periods yield fewer but more significant signals.
- Positive OB / Negative OS Level: Sets the thresholds for the momentum oscillator.
- Pivot Lengths: Adjusts the sensitivity of pivot detection in pivot mode.
- Price Level Filter: Blocks signals that contradict the previous pivot's closing price to reduce false breakouts.
TP/SL Settings
- Show TP/SL: Toggles the visibility of target and stop lines.
- SL Calculation Mode: Choose between ATR-based or percentage-based stop losses.
- RR Ratios: Sets the Risk-to-Reward targets for up to three Take Profit levels.
FAQ
How do I interpret the boxes?
Boxes represent the range of the candle where volume momentum was first detected. A trade is only triggered when price closes outside this range, confirming the breakout direction.
What instruments work best with this tool?
This indicator is most effective on high-volatility instruments where volume data is readily available, such as stocks, major forex pairs, and crypto.
