Usage

The MACD Infinity indicator can be used similarly to a traditional MACD but offers much deeper insight into the rate of change of momentum. Traders can look for:

  • Crossovers: When the MACDI line (the average of iterations) crosses the Signal line, it indicates a potential change in trend direction.
  • Histogram Interpretation: The layered area histograms represent different stages of the iterative process. A growing histogram above zero suggests increasing bullish momentum, while a falling histogram below zero suggests increasing bearish momentum.
  • Momentum Slopes: The unique shapes formed by the stacked iterations help in visualizing the acceleration or deceleration of price movements more clearly than a standard oscillator.

This script functions by taking the standard MACD components (Fast MA, Slow MA, and Signal Line) and feeding a selected component (the "Loops Source") back into the MACD calculation for up to 10 iterations. Each iteration refines the slope, and the final MACDI and Signal lines are produced by averaging the results of these iterations. This recursive calculation allows the indicator to act as a higher-order derivative of price, smoothing out noise while highlighting underlying momentum structures.

Settings

  • Fast Length: Sets the period for the faster moving average used in the oscillator calculation.
  • Slow Length: Sets the period for the slower moving average used in the oscillator calculation.
  • Source: Determines the price data input (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
  • Signal Smoothing: Adjusts the length of the Signal Line moving average.
  • Oscillator MA Type: Allows selection between various moving average types (SMA, EMA, HMA, WMA, etc.) for the main oscillator.
  • Signal Line MA Type: Sets the moving average type for the Signal Line.
  • Loops Source: Defines which output from the previous iteration is used as the source for the next (e.g., MACD, Histogram, or Signal).
