Trend-following RSI Strategy
Dec 2, 2020

The Trend-following RSI Strategy indicator leverages overbought momentum signals to identify and trade sustained uptrends in high-volatility markets like cryptocurrencies.
Usage
The strategy is primarily used to scalp long positions when an asset shows significant strength. Unlike traditional RSI strategies that seek to sell at "overbought" levels, this script enters a long position when the RSI crosses above 70, betting on the continuation of the trend.
Example Workflow:
- Entry: A buy signal is triggered when the RSI (14-period) rises above the 70 threshold, specifically optimized for the 4-hour timeframe.
- Exit: The strategy exits the position if a fixed profit target (default 6%) is reached or if the trend shows signs of exhaustion by the RSI dropping below 55.
Details
This strategy is built on the concept that in fast-moving markets, assets can remain in overbought conditions for extended periods. By treating the RSI as a trend-following tool rather than a mean-reversion oscillator, it aims to capture the "meat" of a FOMO-driven move. The script includes a backtesting window and is pre-configured with a 0.1% commission to reflect standard exchange fees, such as those found on Binance.
Settings
- From Month/Day/Year: Sets the starting date for the backtesting window.
- Thru Month/Day/Year: Sets the ending date for the backtesting window.
- Show Date Range: Toggles the visibility of the active backtesting period.
- RSI Period: Determines the number of bars used to calculate the Relative Strength Index (default is 14).
- Take Profit (%): Sets the percentage target for closing a position in profit.
