Multiple Moving Average Toolkit
Apr 7, 2023

The Multiple Moving Average Toolkit indicator provides a comprehensive visualization of up to five customizable moving averages, featuring dynamic trend ribbons and a real-time data dashboard to streamline trend identification and technical analysis.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to analyze market trends through multiple moving average layers. Users can deploy the script to identify support/resistance levels, trend momentum, and potential reversal points through the following features:
- Trend Ribbons: By enabling the "Turn into Color Ribbon?" option, the area between the plotted moving averages is shaded. This creates a visual "cloud" that expands during strong trends and contracts during consolidation.
- MA Cross Detection: The toolkit monitors the relationship between the fastest (MA #1) and slowest (MA #5) moving averages. When the fastest crosses above the slowest, a bullish "X" is plotted; conversely, a bearish "X" is plotted for a downward cross.
- Data Dashboard: The on-screen table provides an at-a-glance summary of current MA values, the active trend bias (Bullish/Bearish), and the current Average True Range (ATR) for volatility measurement.
Details
The script utilizes a modular calculation engine to process different moving average types including SMA, EMA, HMA, WMA, DEMA, VWMA, and VWAP.
The core logic defines a bullish trend when the shorter-term MA is positioned above the longer-term MA, and a bearish trend when it is below. The ribbon transparency and colors are dynamically updated based on this relationship. The script also includes an optimized alert system that triggers on MA crossovers or when price action crosses the first moving average.
Settings
Accessibility
- Turn into Color Ribbon?: Enables or disables the shaded background between moving average lines.
- Bullish/Bearish Band Color: Sets the specific color and transparency for the ribbon during respective trends.
- Plot Crosses?: Toggles the visual "X" markers for MA crossovers.
- Draw MA Value Table?: Displays or hides the on-chart information dashboard.
- Location of Table: Sets the dashboard position to Top Right, Top Left, Bottom Left, or Bottom Right.
MA Settings
- Set all MA types: A global override to change all active moving averages to a specific type (e.g., EMA) simultaneously.
- MA On/Off (#1 - #5): Individual toggles to enable or disable specific moving average lines.
- Length: Sets the lookback period for the specific moving average calculation.
- Type: Determines the mathematical calculation used for that specific line (overridden if the global MA type is set).
FAQ
How do I interpret the color ribbon? The ribbon turns green (bullish) when short-term momentum is above long-term momentum and red (bearish) when it falls below, helping you visualize trend strength and direction.
Can I use different types of moving averages at the same time? Yes, by setting the "Set all MA types" option to "Disabled," you can manually select unique types (like an EMA for #1 and an SMA for #2) for each of the five slots.
How can I access the Multiple Moving Average Toolkit? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
