Trend Following Parabolic Buy Sell Strategy
May 17, 2024

The Trend Following Parabolic Buy Sell Strategy indicator is a comprehensive trend-following tool that combines the Parabolic SAR with multiple moving average filters to identify high-probability trade entries. It aims to capture sustained market moves by ensuring price action, momentum, and volatility-based indicators are all aligned in the same direction.
Usage
This strategy is designed for assets exhibiting strong directional momentum. Users can utilize the following confirmation steps to identify trades:
- Trend Filter: The primary trendline (default 200-period MA) defines the directional bias. Long positions are only considered when the price is above this line, while short positions are only considered when below.
- Momentum Crossover: A "Fast MA" crossing a "Slow MA" provides the secondary confirmation that short-term momentum is shifting in favor of the primary trend.
- Parabolic SAR Validation: The final entry signal is triggered when the Parabolic SAR dots flip position (below price for longs, above price for shorts), indicating a trend reversal or continuation.
- Automated Risk Management: The tool automatically calculates a stop-loss based on the primary trendline level at the time of entry and sets a take-profit target based on a user-defined risk-reward ratio.
Details
The strategy evaluates market conditions through three distinct layers:
- Directional Baseline: Uses a long-term Moving Average to filter out counter-trend signals.
- Momentum Phase: Employs two shorter-term Moving Averages to detect momentum acceleration via crossovers.
- Volatility Trailing: Utilizes the Parabolic SAR (Stop and Reverse) logic to confirm that price action has enough localized momentum to justify an entry.
The stop-loss is dynamically anchored to the primary trendline, ensuring that if the overarching trend breaks, the position is closed. The take-profit is then projected using a multiplier of the distance between the entry price and the stop-loss.
