VWAP y Standar Deviation
Mar 29, 2020

The VWAP y Standar Deviation indicator provides a comprehensive multi-period Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) analysis combined with dynamic standard deviation bands to help traders identify price trends, volume-weighted midpoints, and potential reversal or continuation zones.
Usage
The indicator displays three distinct VWAP lines and two sets of standard deviation bands based on the secondary VWAP period. Traders can use this tool to gauge the global trend and find entry/exit points:
- Trend Identification: Use the "VWAP 1" (Longer period) to determine the macro trend direction. When the price is consistently above this line, the trend is generally considered bullish.
- Continuation Signals: The 1.618 Standard Deviation bands (Fibonacci-derived) act as confirmation levels. A price breakout above the upper 1.618 band or below the lower 1.618 band often suggests trend continuation.
- Range Trading: During sideways markets, the 1.0 and 1.618 deviation bands can serve as support and resistance zones for mean-reversion strategies.
- Volume Midpoint: The real-time VWAP and the secondary VWAP provide insights into the average price paid based on volume, acting as significant psychological levels for institutional and retail participants.
Details
The script calculates the standard VWAP using cumulative volume and typical price data. It extends this concept by applying user-defined lookback periods to create "Period" and "Period Low" VWAPs, which represent the volume-weighted average over a fixed number of bars rather than just the session start.
The standard deviation bands are calculated based on the volatility of the "VWAP 2" line. By using the 1.618 multiplier, the indicator incorporates Fibonacci ratios into volatility analysis, providing unique technical levels that differ from standard 2.0 sigma Bollinger-style bands.
Settings
Main Settings
- Period Low: Sets the lookback period for the primary long-term VWAP (VWAP 1).
- Period: Sets the lookback period for the secondary VWAP (VWAP 2) and determines the length used for the standard deviation calculation.
FAQ
How do I use the standard deviation bands?
The bands represent areas of high price deviation relative to volume-weighted averages. The 1.618 level is frequently used as a threshold for trend strength; prices staying outside this band indicate strong momentum.
Can I change the source of the VWAP?
The script uses the typical price (HLC3) as the default source for calculations to ensure a balanced representation of the bar's price action.
