The MAC-Z & MACD Leader signal indicator combines a normalized momentum oscillator with lead-generation signals to provide accurate trend identification and entry points. By integrating Z-score normalization with traditional MACD logic and optional Laguerre filtering, the tool offers a more "assumption-free" perspective on market performance compared to standard oscillators.

Usage

The indicator consists of the MAC-Z oscillator, a signal line, a histogram, and background signals representing the "MACD Leader" component.

Crossover Signals

Similar to a stochastic oscillator, crossovers between the MAC-Z line (blue) and the signal line provide actionable momentum signals. A bullish signal occurs when the MAC-Z line crosses above the signal line, while a bearish signal occurs when it crosses below.

Zero Line Crossing

The zero line acts as a baseline for trend direction. When the MAC-Z crosses above the zero line, it suggests the start of a potential uptrend. Conversely, crossing below zero indicates a potential new downtrend. This is particularly useful for identifying momentum shifts that are not yet reflected in price action.

Divergences

Users can look for divergences between price and the MAC-Z oscillator to identify potential reversals. A bullish divergence occurs when price makes lower lows while the indicator makes higher lows, whereas a bearish divergence occurs when price makes higher highs while the indicator makes lower highs.

MACD Leader

The MACD Leader component provides early warning signals for MACD crossovers, displayed as vertical background highlights:

  • Green Background: MACD Leader Bullish Cross.
  • Red Background: MACD Leader Bearish Cross.

Details

The MAC-Z is constructed by combining the Z-score of the price source with a normalized MACD value. This approach aims to account for volatility (via standard deviation) while maintaining the trend-following characteristics of the MACD. The "MACD Leader" logic calculates an anticipated version of the MACD to provide earlier alerts than traditional settings. Additionally, an optional Laguerre filter is available to provide advanced smoothing with minimal lag, helping to reduce noise in choppy market conditions.

Settings

  • Fast Length: The period for the fast moving average used in the internal MACD calculation.
  • Slow Length: The period for the slow moving average used in the internal MACD calculation.
  • Source: The price input used for all calculations (default is Close).
  • Signal Smoothing: The length used to smooth the MAC-Z line to create the signal line.
  • Simple MA(Oscillator): When enabled, uses Simple Moving Averages instead of Exponential Moving Averages for the oscillator calculation.
  • Simple MA(Signal Line): When enabled, uses a Simple Moving Average for the signal line.
  • MAC-Z length: The period used for calculating the Z-score and standard deviation components.
  • MAC-Z constant A: A weighting factor for the Z-score component of the calculation.
  • MAC-Z constant B: A weighting factor for the MACD component of the calculation.
  • Apply Laguerre Smoothing: Toggles the Laguerre filter on or off for the MAC-Z line.
  • Laguerre Gamma: Controls the damping effect of the Laguerre filter; higher values result in more smoothing.

FAQ

How do I access the MAC-Z & MACD Leader signal?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

What makes MAC-Z different from standard MACD?

The MAC-Z incorporates a Z-score normalization, which adjusts the oscillator based on the asset's standard deviation. This makes the indicator more reactive to volatility and allows for better comparison across different timeframes or assets.

What do the background colors represent?

The background colors represent the "Leader" signal. A green background indicates an early bullish crossing of the MACD logic, while a red background indicates an early bearish crossing.
