The Logistic EMA w/ Signals indicator combines the mathematical principles of the Logistic Map Equation with an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to provide a dynamic trend-following system with reduced lag. By incorporating the concept of negative feedback—representing environmental constraints in population growth—into price action, the tool offers a unique perspective on momentum and trend transitions compared to traditional moving averages.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend direction, volatility shifts, and potential entry points through its various visual components:

  • LEMA Channel: The primary trend filter consists of high and low bands. A break above the upper band signals a bullish transition, while a break below the lower band indicates a bearish shift. The channel width adapts to the current volatility regime.
  • LEMA Spine & Structure: The central line changes color based on trend state and its positioning relative to longer-term averages. Use the "Transition" color to identify bars where a trend flip is occurring.
  • LEMA Stack: By enabling the extended stack, you can visualize the 50, 100, and 200-period Logistic EMAs. This helps in identifying structural positioning, such as strong bullish structures when the price is above all three lines.
  • Signal Engine: Users can choose between two non-repainting signal modes:
    • Logistic Feedback: Identifies shifts in directional momentum derived from the logistic model.
    • Deviation vs Trend: Highlights mean reversion opportunities by measuring LEMA's deviation from its linear regression baseline.

Details

The core of this indicator is the Logistic Map Equation: $X_{n+1} = r * X_n * (1 - X_n)$. In this implementation:

  • r (Growth Rate): Expressed as the change in source over a specific length divided by the source, making the equation dynamic.
  • Xn: Represents the percentage of the theoretical maximum price for a given duration.
  • Negative Feedback (1 - Xn): This component reflects environmental constraints, which in trading terms, helps the indicator react more sharply to sudden price changes and exhaustion points.

The result is a ratio that, when combined with an EMA, creates the Logistic EMA (LEMA). This hybrid approach aims to mitigate the inherent lag of standard moving averages while providing a "feedback-aware" smoothing mechanism.

Settings

Core Settings

  • Source: The price data used for calculation (default is Close).
  • Core Length: The base lookback period for the LEMA. Higher values result in a wider, slower-moving channel.
  • Offset: Shifts the plots horizontally on the chart.

Channel & Stack

  • Show LEMA Channel: Toggles the high/low bands.
  • Fill Channel: Colors the interior of the channel based on trend direction.
  • Show LEMA Stack: Overlays 50, 100, and 200-period LEMA lines for structural analysis.
  • Smoothing: Controls the EMA smoothing applied specifically to the stack lines.

Signal Engine

  • Signal Mode: Selects between None, Logistic Feedback, or Deviation vs Trend.
  • Filter Signals by Trend: When enabled, bullish signals are suppressed in bearish trends and vice versa.

FAQ

How do I access Logistic EMA w/ Signals?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Are the signals repainting?

No, the signal engine is designed to appear on closed bars only, ensuring that labels and alerts do not repaint once the bar is finalized.

What is the best way to use the Logistic Feedback mode?

The Logistic Feedback mode is best used as a momentum entry trigger within an established trend. It is recommended to enable the "Filter Signals by Trend" setting to reduce counter-trend noise.
