The Bollinger Bands Strategy indicator is a comprehensive trading tool designed to capture substantial price movements following volatility breakouts by utilizing Bollinger Bands and dynamic risk management.

Usage

The strategy generates signals based on price interactions with volatility bands. A Long signal is triggered when the price closes above the Upper Bollinger Band, while a Short signal is triggered when the price closes below the Lower Bollinger Band. These entries aim to capitalize on momentum following a breakout.

To manage trades, the strategy employs a secondary Simple Moving Average (SMA) for exits.

  • Long Exit: Occurs when the price closes below the SMA Exit Signal Length.
  • Short Exit: Occurs when the price closes above the SMA Exit Signal Length.

Additionally, the strategy includes a hard Stop Loss set at a specific percentage (default 6%) to protect capital if the SMA exit signal does not trigger quickly enough.

Details

This strategy is built on the premise that price typically remains within two standard deviations of its mean. When price breaks out of these bands, it often signals a significant continuation of the trend.

The tool also features a "Fixed Ratio" money management system. This algorithm automatically adjusts the order size based on performance: for every specific dollar amount of profit (Fixed Ratio), the strategy increases the reinvestment amount for the next trade. Conversely, it reduces the order size if the equity drops by that same ratio, helping to scale during winning streaks and protect capital during drawdowns.
