Order Flow Imbalance Finder
Jun 18, 2022

The Order Flow Imbalance Finder indicator identifies and highlights price zones where a significant disparity between buying and selling pressure occurs, helping traders spot areas of potential market inefficiency and unfilled orders.
Usage
The tool is primarily used to identify "Fair Value Gaps" or imbalances that occur when price moves rapidly, leaving behind a range that hasn't been fully traded. These zones often act as magnets for future price action, as markets tend to return to these levels to seek liquidity and "fill" the imbalance.
Traders can use the displayed boxes to:
- Identify potential points of interest (POIs) for entries or exits.
- Spot areas where price might experience a reversal or a temporary pause.
- Combine with other order flow tools to confirm supply and demand shifts.
The boxes extend horizontally across the chart until they are "mitigated" or "filled" by subsequent price action, providing a visual representation of historical inefficiencies that remain relevant to current price discovery.
Details
The indicator detects two types of imbalances based on three-candle sequences:
- Top Imbalance: Occurs during a bearish expansion where the low of the first candle is higher than the high of the third candle, leaving a gap.
- Bottom Imbalance: Occurs during a bullish expansion where the high of the first candle is lower than the low of the third candle.
The script utilizes a dynamic array system to manage the number of boxes displayed on the chart. It includes a specific logic to "chop off" or terminate the boxes when the price trades through the identified zone, ensuring the chart remains clean and focuses only on active imbalances.
Settings
Chart Customization
- Maximum Imb Displayed: Determines the maximum number of historical imbalance boxes to keep on the chart.
- Imbalance Box Color: Allows the user to customize the fill color and transparency of the detected imbalance zones.
