The Breakout Labels and Alert For Price And Volume indicator identifies significant spikes in price movement and trading volume to highlight potential trend reversals or continuations. By utilizing adaptive thresholds across different timeframes, it provides real-time visual labels and alerts when market activity exceeds historical norms.

Usage

The indicator can be used to spot momentum shifts in highly volatile assets like cryptocurrencies or equities. When a price or volume breakout is detected, a label is plotted on the chart to signal the event.

  • Volume Breakouts: Identified when the current volume exceeds a Simple Moving Average (SMA) of volume by a user-defined multiplier. This helps in spotting "climax" volume or institutional participation.
  • Price Breakouts: Triggered when the percentage difference between the close and open of a candle exceeds a specific threshold.
  • Combined Analysis: Users can look for confluence where both price and volume break out simultaneously, often indicating a high-conviction move.
  • Visual Adjustments: Labels can be toggled on or off, and their vertical positioning can be adjusted to avoid overlapping with price action.

Details

The script calculates volume breakouts by comparing the current bar's volume against the SMA of volume from the previous bar. This method ensures that the "breakout" is relative to recent historical activity rather than just the preceding candle. Price breakouts are calculated as a percentage of the candle's opening price.

The tool includes timeframe-specific sensitivity settings. Because volatility typically scales with the timeframe, the script allows users to set different percentage and volume thresholds for the 3m, 5m, 15m, 30m, and 60m timeframes, as well as a fallback "Other" setting for any unlisted periods.

Volume Thresholds

  • SMA Length for volume: Defines the lookback period for the volume baseline (default 108).
  • Period Thresholds (3M to Other): Sets the multiplier required for volume to trigger a breakout (e.g., a value of 30 means volume must be 30x the SMA).

  • Period Thresholds (3M to Other): Sets the minimum percentage change required between the open and close to trigger a price breakout alert.
