VWAP For NIFTY & BANKNIFTY
Aug 6, 2022

The VWAP For NIFTY & BANKNIFTY tool provides a streamlined way to view Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) data directly on index spot charts by pulling data from the corresponding futures contracts. Since indices themselves do not have volume, this indicator solves the technical limitation by automatically mapping and overlaying futures-based VWAP onto the NIFTY and BANKNIFTY spot price action.
Usage
The indicator is designed to be plug-and-play for traders focusing on the Indian markets. When applied to a chart, it identifies the current ticker and fetches the VWAP from the continuous futures contract.
- NIFTY Spot Chart: The script fetches and displays the VWAP from
NSE:NIFTY1!. - BANKNIFTY Spot Chart: The script fetches and displays the VWAP from
NSE:BANKNIFTY1!.
Traders can use this line as a dynamic support or resistance level or as a mean reversion anchor, just as they would with a standard VWAP on a stock or futures chart.
Details
Indices like NIFTY and BANKNIFTY are mathematical calculations based on their underlying components and do not have intrinsic trading volume. Standard VWAP calculations cannot be performed on these spot indices. This script utilizes the request.security() function to bridge data from the NSE futures market. By referencing the continuous futures symbol (e.g., NSE:NIFTY1!), the script retrieves the volume-weighted data and plots it relative to the spot price, allowing for an accurate representation of institutional activity and market sentiment derived from the derivatives market.
Settings
- Custom VWAP Color: Adjust the visual appearance (color and transparency) of the plotted VWAP line.
- Alerts: The script includes built-in alert conditions for price crossing over or under the VWAP line.
