The RSI OB/OS Strategy Analyzer indicator is a quantitative tool designed to help traders evaluate the effectiveness of overbought and oversold reversal strategies using the Relative Strength Index (RSI). It calculates historical performance metrics for RSI signals, providing a statistical foundation for mean-reversion trading decisions.

Usage

The tool can be used to identify potential market reversals by monitoring RSI extremes and their subsequent price action. Traders can select between two primary entry strategies: "Revert Cross" (triggering when price exits an OB/OS zone) or "Cross Threshold" (triggering when price first enters the zone).

By selecting a "Long" or "Short" trade direction, the indicator focuses on the corresponding RSI extreme (Oversold for Longs, Overbought for Shorts). The visual signals appear both on the indicator pane and the main chart, while the performance table provides a lookahead analysis of returns across a user-defined bar lookback. This allows users to see not just the signal, but how price historically behaved in the bars following that signal.

Details

The indicator utilizes a matrix-based calculation system to track forward returns for every valid signal within the specified time window. It records the percentage change from the entry price across a sequence of future bars (up to the "Bar Lookback" setting).

The statistical table summarizes this data into three key metrics:

  • Win Rate %: The percentage of trades that resulted in a positive return after a specific number of bars.
  • Mean Return %: The average percentage change across all recorded trades.
  • Median Return %: The middle value of all percentage changes, offering a view of performance that is less sensitive to extreme outliers.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colors in the table?

The Win Rate row uses a gradient where green indicates a high win rate (>50%) and red indicates a lower win rate. The Mean and Median Return rows use green for positive returns and red for negative returns, with the intensity reflecting the magnitude of the return relative to the dataset.

Can I use this for backtesting?

Yes, the indicator functions as a statistical backtesting tool by analyzing historical signals within your chosen time window and displaying their aggregate performance metrics.
