Trend-based Price Action Strategy
Nov 24, 2023

The Trend-based Price Action Strategy indicator is a comprehensive trading tool that combines candlestick pattern recognition with RSI momentum and EMA trend filters to identify high-probability reversal points within a prevailing trend.
Usage
The strategy is designed to execute trades when multiple confluence factors align, ensuring that entries are taken in the direction of the long-term trend while capitalizing on short-term exhaustion.
- Long Positions: Initiated when the EMA stack is in a bullish alignment (Fast > Medium > Slow), price is above the EMAs, the RSI indicates oversold or recent oversold conditions, and a bullish candlestick pattern (Engulfing or Morning Star) forms.
- Short Positions: Initiated when the EMA stack is in a bearish alignment (Slow > Medium > Fast), price is below the EMAs, the RSI indicates overbought or recent overbought conditions, and a bearish candlestick pattern (Engulfing or Evening Star) forms.
Users can monitor the visual signals on the chart—green triangles for buy setups and red triangles for sell setups—alongside the three plotted EMAs to gauge trend strength.
Details
The strategy employs a multi-layered filtering process:
- Price Action: It scans for specific reversal patterns including Engulfing candles and Star patterns (Morning/Evening).
- Momentum Filter: The RSI component ensures that entries are only considered when the market has reached an extreme (Overbought/Oversold) within the lookback window.
- Trend Filter: A triple Exponential Moving Average (EMA) system provides a robust trend bias. Entry signals are only valid if the price and the EMAs are correctly sequenced, preventing trades against the primary market direction.
Settings
- RSI Length: The lookback period for calculating the Relative Strength Index.
- RSI Overbought: The threshold level used to identify overbought conditions (default is 70).
- RSI Oversold: The threshold level used to identify oversold conditions (default is 30).
- EMA Fast Length: The period for the fastest EMA (typically used for immediate trend).
- EMA Medium Length: The period for the intermediate EMA.
- EMA Slow Length: The period for the slowest EMA (used for long-term trend bias).
- Take Profit (Points): The distance in points from the entry price to the profit target.
- Stop Loss (Points): The distance in points from the entry price to the stop loss level.
