AK MACD BB INDICATOR V 1.00
Feb 24, 2015

The AK MACD BB INDICATOR V 1.00 indicator applies Bollinger Bands to the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line to identify high-momentum price action and short-term trend reversals.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying trend breakouts and momentum shifts based on the interaction between the MACD line and its volatility bands.
- Bullish Momentum: When the MACD line crosses above the upper Bollinger Band, the bars on the chart turn green. This indicates a strong bullish expansion and a potential long entry for short-term trend following.
- Bearish Momentum: When the MACD line crosses below the lower Bollinger Band, the bars on the chart turn red. This suggests strong bearish pressure and a potential short entry.
- Neutral Zones: When the MACD line remains within the upper and lower bands, the market is considered to be in a consolidation or low-volatility phase, and bar colors remain default.
Traders can use these signals to time entries into established trends or to identify exhaustion points when the MACD line begins to return inside the bands.
Details
The script calculates the standard MACD line by subtracting a Slow Exponential Moving Average (EMA) from a Fast EMA. Unlike traditional MACD indicators that use a signal line for crossovers, this tool constructs Bollinger Bands based on the MACD line itself.
The bands are calculated using a Simple Moving Average (SMA) of the MACD line over a user-defined period, with the width determined by the standard deviation of that same line. This allows the indicator to adapt to the volatility of the momentum itself rather than just price volatility. The visual output includes a circle-styled MACD line that changes color based on its position relative to the upper band, a zero-line for baseline reference, and a colored background fill between the bands.
Settings
- BB Periods: Sets the lookback period used to calculate the Simple Moving Average and Standard Deviation of the MACD line.
- Deviations: Adjusts the width of the Bollinger Bands. Higher values require more extreme momentum to trigger a color change.
- Fast Length: The period for the shorter Exponential Moving Average used in the MACD calculation.
- Slow Length: The period for the longer Exponential Moving Average used in the MACD calculation.
- Signal Length: The period for the internal signal line calculation (included for standard MACD compatibility).
FAQ
What does the AK MACD BB indicator measure? It measures the momentum of price relative to its own recent volatility. By placing Bollinger Bands on the MACD, it highlights periods where momentum is accelerating beyond normal statistical ranges.
How do I interpret the colored bars? Green bars indicate that the MACD line has broken above the upper volatility band, signaling strong upward momentum. Red bars indicate the MACD line has broken below the lower band, signaling strong downward momentum.
