VWAP2
Oct 24, 2024

The VWAP2 indicator helps traders analyze market trends and identify key support and resistance levels across various timeframes using Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) calculations.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on how to interpret the multi-timeframe levels provided by the tool. Traders can use these levels to identify trend continuations or potential price reversals at key horizontal levels.
- Trend Analysis: Use the VWAP and its associated bands across different timeframes (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly) to gauge market direction.
- Support & Resistance: The upper and lower bands act as dynamic support and resistance zones. Prices reacting to these levels often signal high-probability entry or exit points.
- Merge Function: Use the "Merge" toggle to visually group data that is closely aligned within a specific price range. This reduces chart clutter and highlights the most significant "confluence" levels where multiple timeframe prices overlap.
- Timeframe Recommendations: For long-term analysis, it is recommended to enable Quarter (Q) and Year (Y) settings. For shorter-term focus, you can disable levels that are significantly distant from the current price.
Details
The indicator calculates VWAP using two primary methods: Standard Deviation and Percentage. This allows for flexibility depending on whether a trader prefers volatility-based bands or fixed percentage offsets.
- Standard Deviation (S): Bands are calculated based on the price volatility relative to the VWAP.
- Percentage (P): Bands are calculated as a fixed percentage offset from the VWAP (e.g., a multiplier of 1 equals 1%).
- Previous vs. Current: Levels prefixed with 'P' (e.g., pwval) represent the previous period's data, while those without the prefix represent the current period. This is essential for identifying "Previous Value Area" levels often used in professional volume profile strategies.
Settings
VWAP Controllers & Anchor Period
- VWAP 1-4 Control: Toggles the visibility of up to four independent VWAP calculations.
- Anchor Period: Defines the timeframe for the VWAP reset (Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Year, Decade).
- Source (S1-S4): Determines the data source for calculations, defaulting to hlc3 (average of high, low, and close).
Bands Calculation Mode
- VWAP Mode (S/P): Choose between Standard Deviation (S) or Percentage (P) for band calculation.
- Multiplier: Sets the distance of the bands from the VWAP line.
Display & Merge
- Merge: When enabled, groups adjacent levels to simplify the visual output.
- Merge Range: Sets the sensitivity for the merge function; higher values result in more aggressive grouping.
Timeframe Specifics
- Open: Toggles the display of the opening price for the specific timeframe.
- PH/PL/PM: Toggles the display of the Previous High, Previous Low, and Previous Midpoint for the selected period.
- pyval/pypoc/pyvah: Toggles specific Value Area Low, Point of Control, and Value Area High for previous periods.
FAQ
How do I access VWAP2?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
Why are some levels missing on lower timeframes?
Due to data limitations on free TradingView accounts (max 20,000 candles), the indicator is most accurate on the 1-hour and 4-hour timeframes when using high-dimension anchors like Yearly levels.
What does "pwval" stand for?
"pwval" stands for Previous Weekly Value Area Low, representing a key liquidity level calculated from the previous week's volume-weighted price action.
