Double RSI Fast & Slow
Apr 19, 2022

The Double RSI Fast & Slow indicator is a momentum-based trend-tracking tool that utilizes two RSI calculations of varying lengths to identify trend direction and potential reversal zones. By comparing a fast RSI to a slow RSI alongside a proximity threshold, users can better visualize trend strength and momentum shifts.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify trend transitions and extreme market conditions through its color-coded lines and dynamic channels.
- Trend Identification: A bullish trend is indicated when the Fast RSI (thin line) is above the Slow RSI (thick line) plus the defined threshold. Conversely, a bearish trend is indicated when the Fast RSI is below the Slow RSI minus the threshold.
- Proximity Threshold (NTZ): The area around the Slow RSI defined by the "Double RSI Threshold" acts as a "No Trade Zone" or a buffer. When the Fast RSI is within this range, it suggests a lack of strong momentum or a period of consolidation.
- Overbought/Oversold (OB/OS): Unlike standard RSI levels (70/30), this script uses a middle line (50) and a variable threshold (tH) to define OB/OS zones. If the Fast RSI exceeds these bounds, the line color changes to indicate extreme momentum.
- Color-Coded Feedback: The Fast RSI line changes color based on its position relative to the Slow RSI and the OB/OS levels, providing immediate visual feedback on the current market state.
Details
The script executes by calculating two distinct RSI values:
- Fast RSI: Designed to capture short-term price fluctuations.
- Slow RSI: Designed to capture the broader market trend.
Both RSI values are smoothed using a Simple Moving Average (SMA) to reduce noise. The script then calculates a dynamic channel around the Slow RSI using the "Double RSI Threshold." The relationship between these two lines, and their position relative to the 50-level, determines the trend bias. The "RSI OS OB" setting adjusts how far the upper and lower bands are from the 50 midline, allowing for customization based on asset volatility.
Settings
- Source: Determines the price data used for the RSI calculation (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
- Double RSI Fast Length: The lookback period for the short-term RSI calculation.
- Double RSI Slow Length: The lookback period for the long-term RSI calculation.
- Double RSI Smooth: The length of the SMA smoothing applied to both RSI values.
- Double RSI Threshold: The offset value applied to the Slow RSI to create the proximity channel.
- RSI OS OB: The distance from the 50 midline used to define the overbought and oversold horizontal levels.
FAQ
How do I interpret the line colors?
The Fast RSI turns green when it is above the Slow RSI threshold (bullish), red when below (bearish), and purple when it crosses into the defined Overbought or Oversold zones. A grey color indicates the Fast RSI is within the neutral proximity of the Slow RSI.
Can I change the sensitivity of the trend signals?
Yes, you can adjust the "Double RSI Fast Length" for quicker signals or increase the "Double RSI Threshold" to require more significant momentum before a trend change is visualized.
