CM_Ultimate RSI Multi Time Frame
Aug 25, 2014

The CM_Ultimate RSI Multi Time Frame indicator provides a versatile Relative Strength Index (RSI) toolkit that allows traders to analyze momentum across multiple timeframes simultaneously with integrated overbought/oversold visual alerts.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify trend exhaustion and momentum shifts. Users can utilize the primary RSI line to track the current chart's momentum or toggle the timeframe settings to view higher timeframe RSI data without switching charts.
The indicator offers several visual aids for interpretation:
- Background Highlighting: Traders can enable background colors that trigger when the RSI is in extreme zones (above 70 or below 30) or specifically when the RSI crosses back into neutral territory from these zones.
- Signal Labels: The "B" (Buy) and "S" (Sell) labels appear when the RSI crosses above the lower threshold or below the upper threshold, signaling potential mean reversion.
- Dual RSI Analysis: By enabling the second RSI plot, users can compare a short-term RSI against a long-term RSI (e.g., 14-period vs. 50-period) or compare RSI values from two different timeframes (e.g., 15m vs. 1H) on a single pane.
Details
The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch RSI data from different resolutions. The primary RSI is calculated based on the user-defined "Length" and "Timeframe." If the "Use Current Chart Resolution" toggle is active, it behaves like a standard RSI; otherwise, it pulls data from the specified custom timeframe.
The signal logic for "Buy" and "Sell" labels is based on specific crossover conditions:
- Buy Signal: Occurs when the RSI was previously below the lower line and has now closed above it.
- Sell Signal: Occurs when the RSI was previously above the upper line and has now closed below it.
The inclusion of a 50-level midline serves as an additional trend filter, where values above 50 generally indicate bullish momentum and values below 50 indicate bearish momentum.
Settings
- Length: Sets the lookback period for the primary RSI calculation (default is 14).
- Upper Line Value: Defines the overbought threshold (default is 70).
- Lower Line Value: Defines the oversold threshold (default is 30).
- Show Mid Line: Toggles the visibility of the 50-level reference line.
- Show Background Highlights When RSI is Above/Below High/Low Lines: Enables solid background coloring when RSI is in overbought or oversold zones.
- Show Background Highlights When RSI Cross: Enables background coloring specifically when the RSI crosses the upper or lower thresholds.
- Show 'B' and 'S' Letters: Toggles the visibility of Buy and Sell labels on the oscillator pane.
- Use Current Chart Resolution: When checked, the primary RSI matches the chart timeframe. When unchecked, it uses the "Use Different Timeframe" setting.
- Use Different Timeframe: Specifies the timeframe for the primary RSI if the current resolution toggle is off.
- Show 2nd RSI: Enables the plotting of a second, independent RSI line.
- Use 2nd RSI?: Specifies the timeframe for the second RSI plot.
- Use 2nd RSI Plot On Same Timeframe: Forces the second RSI to use the current chart's timeframe.
- 2nd RSI Length: Sets the lookback period for the second RSI calculation.
FAQ
How do I use this for multi-timeframe analysis? You can uncheck "Use Current Chart Resolution" and select a higher timeframe (like 1D) to see daily RSI momentum while trading on a lower timeframe (like 15m).
What do the 'B' and 'S' labels represent? The 'B' represents a bullish cross where the RSI exits the oversold zone, while the 'S' represents a bearish cross where the RSI exits the overbought zone.
