The XAUUSD Family Scalping (5min) indicator is a momentum precision tool designed to identify short-term reversal zones and exhaustion points specifically optimized for Gold (XAUUSD) on the 5-minute timeframe. It utilizes a smoothed oscillator to help traders navigate high-volatility market moves by highlighting overbought and oversold conditions relative to price acceleration.

Usage

The script is primarily used for momentum scalping on XAUUSD. Traders can monitor the oscillator line relative to the defined overbought (default 58) and oversold (default -58) thresholds.

  • Buy Signals: A buy signal is generated when the oscillator crosses above the oversold level, suggesting a potential recovery from an exhausted downtrend.
  • Sell Signals: A sell signal is triggered when the oscillator crosses below the overbought level, indicating a potential reversal from a peak.
  • Trend Confirmation: The background color changes based on the relationship between the oscillator and its signal line. A bullish (green) background indicates the oscillator is above the signal line, while a bearish (red) background indicates it is below.

For best results, this tool is recommended for use during the London and New York sessions when liquidity and volatility in Gold are highest.

Details

The indicator calculates a normalized oscillator based on the relationship between price, a simple moving average (SMA) of the median price, and the average range/body size of recent candles.

The core calculation creates a dynamic band around price based on volatility (range) and candle intensity (body size). By comparing the current close to these bands and centering the result, the indicator produces a bounded oscillator that fluctuates between -100 and +100. This approach allows the tool to adapt to shifting market volatility, making it more responsive than fixed-period traditional oscillators during rapid price movements.

Settings

Core Settings

  • Length: Determines the lookback period used for the SMA calculations of the median price, range, and body size.
  • Scale (%): Adjusts the sensitivity of the internal bands. A higher percentage widens the bands, making the oscillator less sensitive.
  • Signal Length: The smoothing period for the signal line used for trend confirmation and background coloring.

Levels

  • Overbought: The upper threshold (default 58) used to trigger sell signals and identify exhaustion in upward momentum.
  • Oversold: The lower threshold (default -58) used to trigger buy signals and identify exhaustion in downward momentum.
