The 3 in 1 (BB, Stoch, RSI) with alert indicator is a comprehensive technical analysis tool that combines Bollinger Bands, Stochastic, and RSI oscillators to identify potential mean-reversion opportunities and overextended market conditions.

Usage

The script provides visual signals directly on the chart based on the interaction between price action and the integrated indicators:

  • Bollinger Band Signals: Purple (Red) and Green circles appear on the chart when the price returns inside the Bollinger Bands after a breach. A red circle above the bar indicates a cross down from the upper band (potential bearish move), while a green circle below the bar indicates a cross up from the lower band (potential bullish move).
  • Momentum Alerts: The background of the chart changes color when momentum oscillators reach extreme levels. A red background appears when both the RSI and Stochastic indicators suggest overbought conditions, while a green background indicates oversold conditions.
  • Combination Strategy: Traders often look for instances where the Bollinger Band circles align with the background color changes to find higher-probability reversal points.

Details

The indicator calculates three distinct components to provide a holistic view of the market:

  1. Bollinger Bands: Uses a Simple Moving Average (SMA) and Standard Deviation to create volatility bands.
  2. RSI: Measures the speed and change of price movements to identify overbought/oversold levels.
  3. Stochastic: Compares a specific closing price of a security to a range of its prices over a certain period.

The tool is designed to highlight "entry signals" specifically when the price action confirms a return from volatility extremes (the bands) while momentum oscillators are simultaneously in agreement.

Settings

Bollinger Bands

  • Length BB: The lookback period for the Bollinger Band SMA and Standard Deviation calculation.
  • Source: The price data used for calculations (default is Close).
  • BB StdDev: The multiplier for the Standard Deviation to determine the width of the bands.

RSI

  • Overbought (RSI): The upper threshold for the RSI momentum alert (default is 80).
  • Oversold (RSI): The lower threshold for the RSI momentum alert (default is 20).
  • Length RSI: The lookback period for the RSI calculation.
  • Length SMA RSI: The smoothing length applied to the RSI.

Stochastic

  • K: The period used for the Stochastic %K calculation.
  • D: The period used for the %D moving average.
  • Smooth: The smoothing factor for the %K line.

FAQ

How do I interpret the background colors?

A green background indicates that both the RSI and Stochastic have reached oversold levels, suggesting a potential bullish exhaustion. A red background suggests both are overbought, indicating potential bearish exhaustion.

What do the circles on the bands signify?

The circles represent "mean reversion" signals. They appear when the price has previously traded outside of the Bollinger Bands and has now successfully closed back within the band range.
