BankNifty - VWAP + StdDev Bands
Jul 3, 2021

The BankNifty - VWAP + StdDev Bands indicator provides a Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) calculation tailored for the Bank Nifty index, incorporating standard deviation bands to identify key volatility and liquidity levels. This tool is designed to help traders analyze intraday or multi-day trends by anchoring the VWAP to specific timeframes or manual starting points.
Usage
The BankNifty - VWAP + StdDev Bands tool can be used to identify support and resistance levels based on volume-weighted pricing. Traders often look for price interactions with the VWAP line for trend confirmation or use the Standard Deviation bands to spot overextended market conditions.
- Standard VWAP: Displays the current volume-weighted average price based on the selected anchor (e.g., Daily).
- Deviation Bands: Three customizable standard deviation bands can be enabled to visualize volatility ranges around the VWAP.
- Manual Anchoring: Users can switch to manual mode to start the VWAP calculation from a specific historical date and time, which is useful for tracking price action relative to significant events or news releases.
- Index Selection: While optimized for Bank Nifty using either Futures volume or a weighted calculation of its underlying stocks, it can also be adapted for Nifty 50 by updating the symbol inputs.
Details
The script offers two primary methods for calculating volume. When "Use Future Volume" is enabled, it pulls volume data directly from the Bank Nifty Futures contract. Alternatively, it can calculate a proxy volume by weighing the volumes of the major underlying constituent stocks (HDFCBANK, ICICIBANK, etc.) according to their approximate index weightage.
The Standard Deviation calculation uses the variance of the price relative to the VWAP, providing a dynamic range that expands or contracts based on market activity. The "VWAP Close" feature optionally plots the VWAP value from the previous anchor period, allowing traders to see how the current price relates to prior value areas.
Settings
