The Liquidity Trap Reversal indicator is a technical analysis tool designed to identify potential trend reversal zones following liquidity sweeps at local price extremes. By filtering out impulsive breakouts that lack follow-through, this script helps traders spot overextended price moves vulnerable to exhaustion and subsequent reversal.

Usage

The indicator identifies "Bull Trap" and "Bear Trap" environments by analyzing the confluence of trend structure, range expansion, and volume. It is best used as a contextual filter to avoid chasing late-stage breakouts or to find early entry points for mean-reversion strategies.

  • Bull Trap Label: Appears when price sweeps below a recent low but shows signs of momentum fading and volume expansion, suggesting a potential move higher.
  • Bear Trap Label: Appears when price sweeps above a recent high with abnormal volume and weakening momentum, suggesting a potential move lower.
  • Grade System: Signals are graded (A+, A, B, C) based on the "Rejection Strength Engine," which calculates a composite score from wick percentage, relative volume, and trend strength (ADX).
  • Risk Management: The script automatically plots entry, stop-loss, and take-profit levels based on recent swing points and a user-defined risk-to-reward ratio.

Details

The script's logic is built upon five core architectural pillars:

  1. Macro Direction: Uses a Supertrend-derived filter to ensure traps are identified within a broader structural framework.
  2. Extreme Sweep Detection: Monitors price action relative to a lookback window (Extreme Lookback) to identify when price breaches local highs or lows.
  3. Liquidation Engine: Compares current volume to a 20-period SMA. A "Liquidation Vol Threshold" multiplier identifies bars with abnormal participation.
  4. Trend-Strength Filter: Uses ADX to ensure the market has enough energy to make a meaningful reversal rather than drifting sideways.
  5. Momentum Fade: Monitors the MACD histogram to detect early signs of impulse efficiency loss.

Settings

Trend Architecture

  • Macro EMA Length: Sets the period for the optional trend reference line.
  • Supertrend Factor / Period: Configures the volatility-based structural direction.
  • Timeframe Override: Allows calculations to be performed on a different timeframe than the chart.

Trap Detection

  • Extreme Lookback: Determines how many bars back the script looks to find local highs and lows.
  • Liquidation Vol Threshold: The volume multiplier required to flag a bar as abnormal.
  • Min ADX: The minimum trend strength required for a signal to trigger.
  • Require Candle Close: Toggles between real-time intra-bar signals and confirmed close signals.

SL / TP Lines

  • TP Risk:Reward Multiplier: Sets the distance of the take-profit level relative to the risk.
  • Swing SL Lookback: Number of bars used to find the recent swing point for stop-loss placement.

FAQ

How do I interpret the Grade icons (💥, 🔥, ⚡)?

The icons represent signal strength. 💥 (A+) indicates a high-probability confluence of volume and rejection, while 〰 (C) represents a weaker, lower-confidence trap condition.

Can this be used on any timeframe?

Yes, the script includes a Timeframe Override feature, allowing you to view higher-timeframe structural traps on lower-timeframe execution charts.

How do I get access to this tool?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
