The BB + RSI Breakout Strategy indicator is a mean-reversion trading tool that identifies potential price reversals by combining Bollinger Bands volatility envelopes with the Relative Strength Index (RSI).

Usage

The strategy is designed to identify "overextended" market conditions where price action breaks outside the Bollinger Bands while simultaneously reaching extreme RSI levels.

  • Long Entries: Occur when the price closes below the lower Bollinger Band and the RSI is below the oversold level (default 30).
  • Short Entries: Occur when the price closes above the upper Bollinger Band and the RSI is above the overbought level (default 70).
  • Exit Logic: The strategy utilizes a fixed percentage Take Profit (default 3%) calculated from the average position price.

Details

This strategy operates on the principle of mean reversion. Bollinger Bands provide a dynamic range based on standard deviation, while the RSI serves as a secondary momentum filter to ensure the breakout is occurring at an extreme. By requiring both conditions to be met, the script filters out minor price fluctuations, focusing on high-probability reversal zones. The default configuration uses a 30-period Bollinger Band and a 13-period RSI to capture medium-term exhaustion points.

Settings

  • RSI Overbought Level: The threshold above which the RSI is considered overbought for sell signals.
  • RSI Oversold Level: The threshold below which the RSI is considered oversold for buy signals.
