Waddah Attar Explosion V3 - Bollinger - MACD
May 9, 2022

The Waddah Attar Explosion V3 [NHK] - Bollinger - MACD indicator is a momentum-based tool designed to identify price explosions and trend direction by combining MACD and Bollinger Band calculations. It aims to help traders distinguish between high-volatility breakouts and sideways market movement across various asset classes like Forex and Crypto.
Usage
The indicator consists of a histogram and "Explosion Lines" (derived from Bollinger Bands) that oscillate around a zero line.
- Long Entry: Occurs when the green (UpTrend) histogram is rising and breaks above the upper Explosion Line. Both elements should ideally be above the Dead Zone to ensure sufficient volatility.
- Long Exit: Consider exiting when the green histogram crosses back below the upper Explosion Line.
- Short Entry: Occurs when the red (DownTrend) histogram is falling (increasing in downward magnitude) and breaks below the lower Explosion Line. Both should be below the lower Dead Zone.
- Short Exit: Consider exiting when the red histogram crosses back above the lower Explosion Line.
- Sideways Market: When the histogram bars remain within the Dead Zone or inside the Explosion Lines, it typically indicates low volume or range-bound price action where trading should be avoided.
Details
This script is a port of a popular MT4 technical indicator. It calculates the difference between the current MACD value and its previous value, multiplied by a sensitivity factor, to create the trend histograms. The "Explosion Lines" are calculated based on the width of the Bollinger Bands (Upper - Lower), representing the volatility expansion or contraction. The Dead Zone is derived from the Average True Range (ATR) to filter out "noise" during periods of low market activity.
Settings
- Sensitivity: Adjusts the intensity of the MACD-based histogram movements. Higher values make the histogram more reactive.
- FastEMA Length: The period for the fast exponential moving average used in the MACD calculation.
- SlowEMA Length: The period for the slow exponential moving average used in the MACD calculation.
- BB Channel Length: The lookback period for the Bollinger Bands used to determine the Explosion Lines.
- BB Stdev Multiplier: The standard deviation multiplier for the Bollinger Bands, affecting the distance of the Explosion Lines from zero.
- DeadZone Multiplier: A multiplier applied to the ATR-based filter to determine the threshold for the Dead Zone.
- Show Dead Zone: A toggle to display or hide the blue background area representing the Dead Zone.
FAQ
How do I use the Dead Zone?
The Dead Zone acts as a volatility filter; if the histograms are moving within this area, it suggests the market lacks the momentum necessary for a high-probability "explosion" trade.
What timeframes are best for this indicator?
While it can be tuned for any period, many traders find it effective on the 30-minute chart for catching intraday momentum shifts.
