The Volume Weighted Average Price Dynamic Slope indicator provides real-time visual feedback on trend direction and momentum by dynamically coloring the VWAP line based on its inclination. It is designed to help traders quickly distinguish between standard trend movements and high-momentum "steep" slope conditions across various timeframes and anchor periods.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market sentiment and volatility. Traders can use the color-coded VWAP line to gauge current momentum:

  • Trend Identification: A green line indicates a positive slope (uptrend), while an orange line indicates a negative slope (downtrend).
  • Momentum Strength: Darker shades (dark green or dark red) appear when the slope exceeds the "Steepness Threshold," signaling rapid price changes and significant buying or selling pressure.
  • Trend Reversals: The "CHG" label appears at the exact bar where the VWAP slope changes direction, providing an early signal for potential trend shifts.
  • Volatility Analysis: Up to three customizable bands can be applied to visualize price deviation using either Standard Deviation or a fixed Percentage.

Details

This tool enhances the traditional VWAP by normalizing the rate of change using per-mille price change per minute (‱/min). This mathematical approach ensures that "steepness" is calculated objectively, regardless of the asset's nominal price. The script automatically scales this threshold based on the chart's timeframe (e.g., adjusting the requirements for a 30-second bar versus a 5-minute bar) to maintain consistent sensitivity. It also includes specific logic for intraday traders, such as Pre-Market High/Low levels and session-specific anchoring.

Settings

VWAP

  • Anchor Period: Sets the reset point for VWAP calculation (e.g., Session, Week, Month, or event-based anchors like Earnings and Dividends).
  • Source: The price data used for calculation (default is HLC3).
  • Offset: Shifts the VWAP line forward or backward on the chart.
  • Visual Anchor Marking: Displays an anchor icon at the start of each new calculation period.

Steepness Threshold

  • Threshold (‱/min): Sets the sensitivity for identifying "steep" momentum. A higher value requires faster price movement to trigger the steep slope visual.

Bands

  • Calculation Mode: Choose between "Standard Deviation" for volatility-based bands or "Percentage" for fixed distance.
  • Bands Multipliers: Toggle and adjust up to three separate deviation levels.

Premarket

  • Premarket High/Low: Enables dotted lines representing the high and low established during the pre-market session.

FAQ

How do I interpret the "CHG" label? The "CHG" label signifies a change in the direction of the VWAP slope. A green label indicates a shift to an upward slope, while an orange/red label indicates a shift to a downward slope.

What does the ‱/min threshold mean? It represents the per-mille price change per minute. This normalized unit allows you to apply the same momentum sensitivity to a $1,000 stock and a $1 stock simultaneously.
