Multi Timeframe Bollinger Bands
Oct 15, 2019

The Multi Timeframe Bollinger Bands indicator allows traders to visualize Bollinger Bands from three distinct timeframes simultaneously on a single chart to identify higher-level volatility and trend structures.
Usage
The Usage of this tool is centered around identifying confluence between different timeframes. By plotting three sets of bands, traders can observe how price action reacts to volatility zones on intraday, daily, or weekly levels without switching charts. For example, a price touching the Upper Band of Timeframe 1 while also reaching the Upper Band of Timeframe 3 may indicate a significant overbought condition across multiple horizons.
Key usage points include:
- Trend Confirmation: Observing if all three moving averages are sloping in the same direction.
- Volatility Squeezes: Identifying periods where bands from multiple timeframes contract simultaneously, suggesting a potential breakout.
- Support and Resistance: Using higher timeframe bands as dynamic support or resistance levels for lower timeframe entries.
Details
The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch data from different timeframes. Each Bollinger Band set consists of a Simple Moving Average (SMA) and two standard deviation bands (Upper and Lower). The calculation for each timeframe is independent, allowing for specific customization of the lookback period (Moving Average) and the multiplier (Sigma) for each interval.
Settings
The settings are organized into three identical sections for each timeframe:
- Timeframe (1, 2, 3): Determines the data interval used for the Bollinger Band calculation (e.g., 60m, 240m, Daily).
- Sigma (1, 2, 3): Sets the standard deviation multiplier for the upper and lower bands.
- Moving Average (1, 2, 3): Sets the lookback period for the central Simple Moving Average and the standard deviation calculation.
