Enhanced Order Flow Pressure Gauge
Feb 27, 2025

The Enhanced Order Flow Pressure Gauge indicator estimates bullish and bearish pressure by analyzing candle close positions relative to their range and weighting the result by volume to identify trend shifts and momentum.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify market sentiment and potential entry points by observing the relationship between price action and volume.
- Trend Following: Traders can look for transitions where the smoothed pressure line crosses the zero level or defined thresholds. A shift from negative to positive values indicates growing bullish pressure.
- Reversal Identification: By using the threshold-based signals, users can identify when buying or selling pressure has reached a significant level.
- Signal Confirmation: The tool includes "Confirmed" signals (diamond icons) that appear when momentum is sustained over a specific lookback period, helping to filter out minor fluctuations.
- Volume-Weighted Context: Strong price movements supported by high volume result in larger histogram bars, allowing users to distinguish between high-conviction moves and low-volume drifts.
Details
The Enhanced Order Flow Pressure Gauge (OFPG+) calculates a "Pressure Score" for each bar. This is achieved by determining the relative position of the close within the high-low range (Range Position). This value is shifted relative to the midpoint and then multiplied by the bar's volume.
The script further processes this data into:
- Pressure Delta: The change in cumulative pressure, showing the acceleration or deceleration of market bias.
- Smoothed Pressure: An EMA of the raw pressure score used to generate primary signals and background highlights.
- EMA Filter: An optional 200-period EMA filter is included to ensure signals align with the long-term trend.
Settings
- Smoothing Length: Sets the EMA period used to smooth the raw pressure score.
- Volume Weight: Adjusts the multiplier for volume to scale its impact on the pressure calculations.
- Pressure Threshold: Defines the level at which pressure is considered significantly bullish or bearish for signal generation.
- Signal Lookback: The number of bars used to confirm if momentum is maintained after an initial signal.
- Use 200 EMA Filter: When enabled, signals will only be generated if the price is above (for bullish) or below (for bearish) the 200 EMA.
FAQ
How do I use the confirmed signals?
Confirmed signals appear as diamond icons and occur when the pressure remains beyond the threshold for a set lookback period, suggesting a higher probability of trend continuation or reversal.
What does the histogram represent?
The histogram shows the raw pressure score for each individual candle. Green (or blue) bars indicate a close near the high with volume, while red (or gray) bars indicate a close near the low with volume.
