The Colored VWAP indicator provides a visual enhancement to the standard Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) by dynamically changing its color based on the current price trend. This tool helps traders quickly identify whether the average price, weighted by volume, is trending upwards or downwards, facilitating better decision-making during intraday sessions.

Usage

The Colored VWAP is primarily used as a trend-following tool and a dynamic support or resistance level.

  • Bullish Trend: When the VWAP line turns green, it indicates that the VWAP is currently rising over a short lookback period, suggesting bullish momentum.
  • Bearish Trend: When the VWAP line turns red, it indicates that the VWAP is falling, suggesting bearish momentum. Traders often look for price interactions with the VWAP line; for example, price staying above a rising green VWAP can confirm a strong uptrend.

Details

This script calculates the standard Volume Weighted Average Price using the built-in ta.vwap function. To determine the color state, the script evaluates if the current VWAP value is rising compared to its previous values over a 2-bar window. The visualization uses a broken line style (plot.style_linebr) to ensure that color transitions are sharp and reflect immediate changes in trend direction. Additionally, the script includes built-in alert conditions that trigger whenever the VWAP switches from a falling to a rising state, or vice versa.

Settings

  • VWAP Color: The indicator automatically toggles between green (rising) and red (falling) based on calculation. There are no manual inputs for the core calculation as it utilizes the standard session VWAP.

FAQ

How do I interpret the color changes?

A green line signifies that the volume-weighted average price is increasing, while a red line signifies it is decreasing. These shifts can be used to identify potential changes in intraday market sentiment.

Can I use this on any timeframe?

While VWAP is most commonly used on intraday timeframes (1m, 5m, 15m, etc.) because it typically resets daily, the indicator will function on any timeframe where volume data is available.
