The Volatility Pressure System indicator is a multi-layered volatility analysis tool that identifies market compression and expansion states by analyzing the interaction between Bollinger Bands and Keltner Channels. It aims to provide traders with high-probability reversal signals and momentum breakout alerts based on cyclical volatility patterns, refined through a comprehensive seven-gate quality filter.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify both mean reversion opportunities and momentum breakouts.

  • Band Touch Signals: Entry labels (⬆ / ⬇) appear when price reaches statistical extremes (Bollinger Bands) while meeting specific confluence requirements. These are ideal for mean reversion trades targeting the basis line.
  • Squeeze Release: "⚡ SQ↑" and "⚡ SQ↓" markers identify explosive momentum breakouts after a period of volatility compression (when Bollinger Bands are inside Keltner Channels).
  • Visual Analysis: Use the gradient Bollinger Band cloud to identify current price pressure and the dotted Keltner Channels to monitor the volatility "wrapper."
  • Forecasting: Use the linear regression forecast cloud to visualize the projected path of volatility and target endpoints for the next several bars.

Details

The system architecture operates through several integrated layers:

  • Squeeze Engine: Detects when volatility has compressed below normal ATR-based levels. It tracks the duration of the squeeze to predict the intensity of the subsequent release.
  • Confluence Scoring: Every signal is assigned a confidence percentage (0-100%) based on factors like RSI depth, volume spikes, EMA trend alignment, and candle rejection quality.
  • Quality Gates: To ensure signal precision, the script uses seven independent gates—including volume, swing structure, and RSI zones—to block low-probability setups.
  • Regime Classification: Markets are categorized into one of five states: Squeeze, Release, Expansion, Compression, or Ranging, helping traders avoid choppy conditions.

Settings

Bollinger Bands

  • BB Length: The period for the basis line calculation.
  • BB Multiplier: Standard deviation multiplier for band width.
  • Show BB Cloud: Toggles the visual gradient fill between bands.

Keltner Channel

  • KC Length: Period for the EMA center line.
  • KC ATR Multiplier: Multiplier for channel width based on Average True Range.

Forecast & Signals

  • Forecast Bars: Number of bars into the future to project the regression envelope.
  • Min Confidence %: The threshold required for an entry signal to be displayed.
  • Signal Cooldown: Minimum time between signals of the same direction to prevent spam.

Filters

  • Volume Filter: Requires institutional participation for signals.
  • Swing Structure Filter: Ensures price has formed a local peak or valley before signaling.
  • EMA Trend Filter: Aligns signals with the intermediate trend.

FAQ

How do I interpret the S-Tier, A-Tier, and B-Tier labels? These tiers represent the confidence score of a signal. S-Tier (80%+) represents maximum confluence, while B-Tier (60%+) indicates a standard setup meeting minimum trade requirements.

Why are some band touches not producing signals? This occurs when the "Quality Gates" are active. If factors like volume, RSI, or price structure do not align, the system blocks the signal to prevent entering during low-probability or choppy conditions.
