Price Action
Oct 31, 2024

The Price Action indicator plots dynamic volatility-based price channels to help traders visualize market ranges and identify potential trend continuation or reversal zones.
Usage
The indicator can be used to assess the current market volatility and identify extreme price deviations. Traders can interpret the different channel levels as follows:
- Core Range: The first level of channels represents the standard volatility range based on recent price action.
- Extended Zones: The second and third levels (expanded by 8% and 16% respectively) act as overextended zones.
- Trend Identification: Prices maintaining a position above the upper channels or below the lower channels can indicate strong trending behavior.
- Reversals: Touches or crosses of the third-level (most transparent) channels often suggest exhausted price movement, potentially signaling a mean reversion or trend pause.
The visual transparency decreases as the channels expand, allowing for a clear hierarchy of price levels on the chart.
Details
The indicator calculates volatility by comparing a smoothed Average True Range (ATR) against a smoothed closing price, resulting in a percentage-based volatility coefficient. This coefficient is applied to the previous bar's closing price to project the first channel level. Subsequent levels are then derived by expanding the distance between the previous close and the primary channel by fixed percentages (8% and 16%). This methodology ensures that the channels remain reactive to recent market shifts while providing structured breakout levels.
Settings
- Длина (Length): Determines the lookback period used for the ATR and EMA calculations to establish the volatility basis.
FAQ
How do I use the different channel levels?
The first level represents the immediate volatility range, while the second and third levels represent increasing degrees of price deviation. The outer levels are typically used to identify "overbought" or "oversold" conditions relative to current volatility.
Can I use this on any timeframe?
Yes, the Price Action indicator adapts its calculations to the timeframe of the chart it is applied to, though the Length setting may need adjustment to suit different trading styles (e.g., scalping vs. swing trading).
