Entry Signals (Long/Short)
Sep 21, 2025

The Entry Signals (Long/Short) indicator is a technical analysis tool designed to identify precise market entries by combining Relative Strength Index (RSI) momentum with Exponential Moving Average (EMA) crossovers.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify trend-following entry points across various timeframes, from intraday charts (like the 195-minute) to daily and weekly intervals. Signals are displayed directly on the chart:
- Long Signals: Represented by a green triangle-up labeled "Long" below the price bar.
- Short Signals: Represented by a red triangle-down labeled "Short" above the price bar.
The tool includes a Fast EMA (default 5) and a Slow EMA (default 20) to provide immediate context for the current trend structure. Signals are only triggered at the close of a bar to ensure reproducible execution and reduce the impact of intra-bar noise.
Details
The script operates on a multi-step confirmation logic:
- RSI Momentum: The script tracks crossovers between the RSI and its simple moving average.
- Pending State: A bullish or bearish RSI crossover sets a "pending" state.
- EMA Confirmation: A signal is only finalized when an EMA crossover occurs in the direction of the pending RSI state.
This dual-layer approach ensures that momentum (RSI) and trend direction (EMA) are aligned before a signal is plotted. If a counter-cross occurs in the RSI or EMA before the full signal is triggered, the pending state is cleared to avoid low-probability entries.
Settings
- RSI Period: Adjusts the lookback period for the Relative Strength Index calculation.
- Fast EMA (Short-Term): Sets the length for the faster Exponential Moving Average.
- Slow EMA (Long-Term): Sets the length for the slower Exponential Moving Average.
FAQ
How do I use the signals for entries?
Signals are generated when both RSI momentum and EMA trend alignment are confirmed. Users typically look for "Long" labels to enter buy positions and "Short" labels for sell positions once the candle has closed.
Can I use this on any timeframe?
Yes, the indicator is applicable across all timeframes. It is particularly effective for top-down analysis, starting from higher timeframes like the weekly or daily to determine the major trend before looking for entries on lower timeframes.
