MACD Trend Squeezer V2
Jan 9, 2020

The MACD Trend Squeezer V2 indicator is a momentum-based technical analysis tool that combines a modified Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) with a trend "squeeze" visualization to identify market direction and momentum shifts.
Usage
The tool is designed to provide a comprehensive view of market momentum by overlaying traditional MACD components with price-action-based trend bars.
- MACD Line & Signal Line: Use the crossover of the MACD (thick line) and the Signal line (thin line) to identify potential entry or exit points.
- Histogram: The colored area represents the MACD histogram, showing the distance between the MACD and the Signal line. Growing bars indicate accelerating momentum, while falling bars suggest a potential slowdown.
- Trend Squeezer Bars: The vertical bars in the background represent the relationship between price and various Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs). These bars help visualize whether the current price action is "squeezing" or trending relative to its mean.
- Color Cues: Bullish momentum is typically represented by green tones, while bearish momentum is represented by red tones. Neutral or transitional phases are highlighted to alert users of potential reversals.
Details
The MACD Trend Squeezer V2 utilizes a slightly faster configuration than the standard MACD (12, 26, 9) to provide more responsive signals. It calculates three distinct moving average offsets (closema, refma, and sqzma) which are plotted as candles to create the "Squeezer" effect. These calculations help determine the relative strength of the current price trend compared to a longer-term baseline.
The histogram is further refined with four-color logic to distinguish between accelerating and decelerating momentum both above and below the zero line, providing a more granular view of market dynamics.
Settings
Main Settings
- Length: Sets the primary lookback period for the trend squeeze calculations.
- Fast Length: The period for the fast EMA used in the MACD calculation.
- Slow Length: The period for the slow EMA used in the MACD calculation.
- Source: The price data used for calculations (default is Close).
- Signal Smoothing: The period used to smooth the MACD line to create the Signal line.
- Simple MA (Oscillator): If enabled, uses a Simple Moving Average (SMA) instead of an EMA for the MACD calculation.
- Simple MA (Signal Line): If enabled, uses an SMA instead of an EMA for the Signal line.
FAQ
How do I interpret the background bars?
The background bars visualize the distance between the price and its moving average. When they align with the MACD histogram color, it indicates strong trend confluence.
What do the different histogram colors mean?
Bright green/red indicate accelerating momentum (growing away from zero), while darker or muted tones indicate decelerating momentum (pulling back toward zero).
