Support/Resistance & EMA Crossovers with Alerts
Jan 15, 2026

The Support/Resistance & EMA Crossovers with Alerts indicator provides a comprehensive technical analysis framework by combining trend-following moving averages with automated pivot-based support and resistance levels. It aims to help traders identify potential trend shifts and breakout opportunities through visual cues and integrated alerting systems.
Usage
This tool can be utilized to identify trend direction and potential entry/exit points through two main components:
- EMA Crossovers: The indicator tracks three Exponential Moving Averages (Short, Medium, and Long term). "Up" and "Down" labels signify short-term momentum shifts, while "Buy" and "Sell" labels indicate broader trend confirmations based on medium and long-term EMA interactions.
- Support & Resistance Levels: Horizontal levels are plotted based on pivot highs and lows. These represent areas of historical supply and demand.
- Breakout Detection: The tool identifies "B" (Break) labels when price closes beyond a pivot level. These breakouts are further filtered by a volume threshold to distinguish high-conviction moves.
- Wick Breaks: Specific labels for "Bull Wick" and "Bear Wick" breaks identify instances where price pierces key levels with specific candlestick structures, suggesting potential exhaustion or rejection.
Details
The indicator calculates Support and Resistance using a pivot-based approach defined by the "Left Bars" and "Right Bars" parameters. A high or low is confirmed only after a specific number of bars have passed on either side, ensuring the level's significance.
The volume filter utilizes a Volume Oscillator calculated as the percentage difference between a 5-period and 10-period volume EMA. This ensures that breakout signals ("B") only appear when relative volume exceeds the user-defined "Volume Threshold," filtering out low-liquidity market noise.
Settings
- Short term EMA: Sets the period for the fastest EMA (default 5).
- Medium term EMA: Sets the period for the intermediate EMA (default 12).
- Long term EMA: Sets the period for the slow EMA (default 34).
- Source: Determines the price data used for EMA calculations (e.g., Close, Open, HL2).
- Show Breaks: Toggles the visibility of breakout labels on the chart.
- Left Bars: The number of bars to the left required to confirm a pivot point.
- Right Bars: The number of bars to the right required to confirm a pivot point.
- Volume Threshold: The minimum value the volume oscillator must reach to validate a breakout signal.
FAQ
How do I interpret the "Buy" and "Sell" labels versus "Up" and "Down"?
The "Up" and "Down" labels signal early momentum shifts when the short-term EMA crosses the medium-term EMA. The "Buy" and "Sell" labels represent a more significant trend confirmation occurring when the medium-term EMA crosses the long-term EMA.
What causes a "Bull Wick" or "Bear Wick" break?
These occur when price crosses a pivot level but the candlestick geometry suggests a specific type of price action (such as a long lower wick during an upside break), providing context on the nature of the level breach.
